    The one with the head lower is definitely a hen, she is already laying, I'm not sure of the one with the head high. It doesn't have saddle feathers that I can tell, and not shiny but I'm not confident that it is a hen. I'll get different picture in the am.

    I use pellets. Seems to be less waste. Even if scratched out of feeder they can pick/peck from the ground

    Hello from South Louisiana

    Had chickens when I was a younger living on a rice farm, but new to backyard flocks. Have 4 Rhode Island Reds, about 21 weeks. Waiting for the first eggs to prove to my family that I'm not crazy.
