When I've fed crushed egg shells back to my birds, I've never removed the membrane. Once the shells are dry and crumbly, you don't even notice the membrane. And if they're dry, the membrane poses almost no bacteria-growth hazard.
I understand that people have different opinions (clearly I have mine, lol). But the goal of any discussion should be to spread the truth. This is the truth as I see it: rabbits of any breed can and do live over 10 years, even if fed only pellets and "worked" hard by breeding/showing them...
I wouldn't call breeding rabbits irresponsible, if you have a plan and purpose. The people who complain about too many rabbits in shelters often don't understand that those rabbits are in shelters because they're not the animals in demand. It isn't that there are too many rabbits; there are too...
Unfortunately, I don't believe my chicks will be gender-linked, and I definitely don't have enough experience with this line. :) I guess I'll wait and see! Around what age do the males generally begin to strut and coo?
I'm new to pigeons this year, and currently have two happy Baldhead Show Roller squabs being raised by their parents.
Question: When can you usually determine gender in your young pigeons? What signs do you look for?
How much does she weigh? The amount of pellets fed will vary with the size, breed, and overall genetics of an individual rabbit. She doesn't need any vegetables each day; you can give some sparingly if you want. Hay also isn't essential, but it does support digestive health, so there is nothing...
I haven't raised Holland Lops, but they are similar in size to my Mini Rex. I would give your does with litters 24 inch by 24 inch or 30 inch by 24 inch cages. Your Hollands without litters could probably live in 24 by 24 or 18 by 24 inch cages.
I would leave her. She should be fine without her playmate for a while. Besides, with raising kits on her mind, she may be more hormonal and act aggressive to her former "friend." Alternatively, spending time with Judy Hops may make her less secure and cause her to be dangerous to her kits.
I would first try to find out what the market is like for pets in your area. I am not one of the "never breed, everything is overpopulated, just get a shelter animal" people, but I have experienced the challenge of selling rabbits (even show quality ones) occasionally.
Lionheads are a pretty...
What breed rabbits do/will you have? All-wire cages that are stackable or hangable are best, though I have always purchased mine and don't know how easy they are to make yourself. Wood is not generally a good idea, as it is hard to disinfect and would need a covering of bedding, which also isn't...
Well, it seems like I lost hope too early. Just candled the two eggs they're currently sitting on and both are fertile! Maybe the vitamins finally helped or they were just waiting for warmer weather...who knows? Fingers crossed for squabs around June 7th!
I don't want to get really involved with this discussion, but I just wanted to say the following:
I had a lab (a rescued stray) that was very intelligent, but also a huge puller on the leash. My family tried nearly everything to get him to walk calmly: clicker training, slip leads, some type of...
If it has only been a week since the buck was in with her, she may be having a false pregnancy or just being hormonal, rather than being pregnant. Most does only begin making nests a few days/one week before giving birth, though there are definitely exceptions. For now, we might as well assume...
Wyandottes7 and I purchased a pair of Bald Head Show Rollers in March of this year. Both were hatched in 2016, so they're nearly two years old now. The male and female got along great almost immediately. Both also appear very healthy from the outside.
They laid two eggs about ten days after...
