    Coop Kits??

The ones from Tractor Supply are awful and too expensive for what they are and will fall apart. Ware Manufacturing right? Not good. I don't know where in S. Vt you are, but call up Erskine's in Chester and ask them for the contact info for a guy named Bill who makes and sells coops and...

    Growing fodder for chickens

Walmart online hard red wheat from Augason Farms grows well for me. I'd like it to be cheaper but the Blue Seal I got from the feed store grew mold, but not the hard red wheat from Augason. Weirdly, the hard white wheat from Augason did, so I only use the red now.

    OEG bantam breeders?

Thank you, I'll try the district person next. I will have to join the club too. If the classifieds online are you are talking about is the same as the one I found, there wasn't much on it (as I recall, I last looked I think a couple weeks ago), but I'll look again. I really do want good quality...

Hi, I tried posting this question under the breeders section but I didn't get any replies, so I thought I would try here where the oeg people are already hanging out :). Who are the really good breeders who are contactable to get stock from? I am especially interested in crele. I went to the...

    OEG bantam breeders?

Who are the really good breeders who are contactable to get stock from? I am especially interested in crele. I went to the OEG club website hoping to find a breeders directory like the Ameraucana club has, but couldn't find any. I would love some leads.

OT: Treatment of Women In Hardware Stores (Yes, this is a Rant)

I've gotten that treatment before. But when I go to the local lumber yard, used mostly by contractors and carpenters, I've only been treated that way once in years. I have never ever seen any other woman buying lumber there. Once, in all the years I've been there, I saw a woman buying something...

My 4x6 Pallet Coop Build (Completed, PIC HEAVY)

You know, I've seen a lot of pictures of pallet coops, and a lot of them look like they won't be sturdy, or won't be easy to work with for cleaning and maintenance, or frankly look a mess. From what I've seen, attractive pallet coop are really rare. What you've done, though... wow! It's...

Most active time of day at a chicken show?

I've been to a couple (not showing) but mostly came in the middle of the day, and there weren't too many people around, and I didn't get to meet anyone whose birds I was looking at. I mean people were there, but only really near the display tables and not too many by the cages, except for the...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Yes, I know. I've read about how to do the test matings. That's a source of major frustration for me, I can't seem to get started with a flock of birds that don't have side sprigs. The Davis birds I started with had them (one of the roosters that I hatched out was sprigged, obviously other birds...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Can I ask a WWYD question? I've got some really really old Bev Davis hens, like 5 yrs old, that have thrown side sprigs. They are with a younger Bev Davis line (but not directly from her) rooster who I think is pretty great. Meanwhile I've got some of this year's hatch from another breeder...

Can I use PVC sewer pipe to build a PVC feeder (vs water pipe)?

Thank you all! I'm all set to make my first pvc feeder then .

Can I use PVC sewer pipe to build a PVC feeder (vs water pipe)?

I bought 4" pipe at the hardware store, but it's sewer pipe, not water pipe. I know PVC water pipe is made not to leach chemical nasties, so it would be safe for a chicken feeder, but what about sewer pipe? Since it's only formulated to carry waste, is it made not to leach any chemical nasties...

Joel Salatin a Snake Oil sales man?

Quote: But do you have any idea how old the idea of movable housing is? Joel Salatin didn't come up with a lot of these ideas he uses, many he is just bringing back. If you start reading pre-WWll poultry literature you'll see how prevalent movable housing was. Many farms used the "Colony...

Portable Poultry House plans from Extension Service - but will it fall down?

I love the idea of a seasonal house that can be dismantled for my grow-out pens. I could put them on grass, grow the birds on pasture, then take them apart and store them for winter. There are plans for a portable poultry house that comes apart from the University of California Extension...

    C&C cages.

Thank you for posting this. I've seen those types of cages online for guinea pigs and was thinking of adapting it for my rabbits. Never thought of seramas, which I think I would have to overwinter in the basement in my climate. Yours look healthy and happy in their pen. Thanks also for the...

BEWARE of these thermostaticly controlled switches

Thanks for the info seanb! I worry about my water heaters all the time, though an electrician who came to make my outlet a GFI said what I do looks o.k. I would love to have a fuse built in to the extension cords, less worry. I saw your water heater on your other posts about it - cool!
