Right now the turkey is only slightly bigger than the chicks. Do I need to worry about the size difference? I do have the wire cages touching so I suppose if disease was supposed to be a concern they are already sharing
On an impulse while getting some ducklings, my son also picked up 5 turkey chicks of various breeds. Four of the 5 died within the first week. We think the reason was that he wasn't feeding them the right amount of protein. NUMBER 5 is doing very well and really growing. This is week 3 it seems...
Hi,
I am a returning member who has had chickens for the last 5 years. I have a combination of Rhode Island Red, Golden Comet mix. Barred Rock, and some White hens. The current bird count is 6 roosters, 25 hens, and 17... now 12, 3 month old chicks (hatched from my eggs in my classroom)
I am...
Thanks for the link. I came on looking for an answer to a poop question and WOW I got a good education. From the looks of thing I'd say my girl is passing things normally. I originally thought it was diarrhea. Now my only other question is about the smell. Her poop looked a bit different this...
Love the idea of living in peace together. I have just discovered the harsh reality. My dog isn't taking to training. We were hoping to avoid more fencing but.. We are adding a yard divider, as well as the shock collar training. Even though I am doing more training differently now I don't think...
This is the first time clicker and treats haven't worked for training for me. It has taken a lot for me to come to the shock collar but I can't have this. A muzzle might help at least at first. My fear is that a chicken will injured while I'm training. I'm told shock collar training goes fast in...
Well it happened. Two days ago, MY dog got one of MY chickens. I have been working with the dogs but this one just got in that prey - predator mode and .. well it's not pretty. We got the dogs up and the caught the injured chicken. I really thought she was going to die but... She has spunk and...
Ok so the only real solution seems to be make sure the "eats" are better on our side of the fence. I didn't realize that chickens would go quarter mile from home. I am hoping our hay field has plenty of good bugs.
Hi,
My son and I are just starting with functional pets at our place. We now have 14 hens and 1 rooster about 20 weeks old. We have a 4 x 8 house and a fenced larger run. We have been letting the all the chickens out daily for about 6 weeks now. They seem to enjoy the bugs, scratching around the...
The last 2 nights I had all the coop. I had to "catch 3 girls" and physically put then in. they are all grazing a little closer to the coop. My son and I removed some of the lower tree branches to make getting up a bit harder. I also noticed that maybe I need more roosting bar space. they have...
So you just keep them in all day too? Last night was better 10 out 14 went in. (There was a storm) The other 4 were so high in the trees I couldn't get them.
Our chickens are about 5 months old now. We have 13 hens and 1 Rooster. They have been outside for a while now and doing great. Our issue is that not all the chickens want to be in the coop at night and they started using the trees. Now others are following them to the trees. I really want them...
Hi
