I was wondering the EXACT same thing. No idea how he accomplished it but supposedly he did! He didn't mention anything! Not even a possible tumor behind the eye. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Gives me a good idea of what else could possibly be wrong with him.
Thank you for all the info! In all my years of owning birds I have never seen something like this. I'm so sorry to hear your bird didnt make it. I've called a few vets and it is proving impossible to find one willing to do the operation. Not sure what to do at this point. Preparing for the...
Glad to see some replies! I was losing all hope! It looks similar to that @kskingbe but it has more of a cloudy look as well and all around swollen instead of just the lower half. Here's some pics. It is TWICE as swollen as that today. We did a warm compress and I feel it made it worse. Vet said...
My white peacock is almost 2 years old, large, and not under fed at all. He is still active and still eating and drinking but for the last few weeks his right eye ( just the right eye) has been pink and just in the last couple weeks has begun to swell up. He's been wormed, I already treated his...
Does anyone on here know of anyone who breeds and sells Chinese Painted Button Quail close to the Sioux Falls area? While living in Southern California these guys were everywhere but after moving to SD its like looking for long lost buried treasure. If anyone has any ideas please let me know...
Thanks for the link! Tyndall is not a bad distance from me at all. Definitely pick up distance. My Indian blue is split to white so I wanted a white hen to get white chicks. My peahen that died was split to bronze. What would their chicks have been? And how do you get a pied? Is it always...
Wow! Sounds like a great plan! It is pretty hot still. I prefer to pick up birds anyway so I can see the birds and where they live and. Plus I'm also looking to purchase a laying white peafowl and I don't know anyone who ships adult birds (they seem to stress alot more.) There is no one nearby...
Thank you for the reply. I will have to check him out. Brookings huh? Are you going to continue keeping peafowl? It would be nice to know a fellow keeper/breeder close by.
My guinea got into a fight with one of our roosters and broke a wing. We set it but now I'm more worried about infection setting in due to the broken bone. We had a similar situation with a guinea hen with a broken toe that had good results using the omnicef oral suspension. I just can't...
I actually have TWO Blue Copper Marans cockerels that have no copper. Craziest thing. I had never seen that before. They are actually really neat looking.
Out of the 18 that I knew had viable chicks at lock down, 17 made it. The other had pipped but never got out. This hatch was a little before schedule. I had to do a little assisting on a couple and a few pipped on the wrong side but they got out just fine. Overall, I'm pleased with the number of...
I've read that since quail eggs are so small they lose liquid in the egg faster than chicken eggs do. I guess the only advice I can give is have the relative humidity a little higher throughout incubation than you would for chicken eggs. Hope that helps.
That's what I was thinking. I have a...
You're right. It wasn't ready. It must had hit a blood vessel because it pipped at the wrong end, plus it still had a lot of albumen left. It didn't make it.... :(
Thanks you. That makes sense. Unfortunately it didn't make it. Poor little thing. I feel so bad. It's so strange. Most of its hatchmates had membranes that were starting to dry out. I eggtopsied and it hadn't absorbed all its yoke and still had plenty of liquid. It looked like it was a day...
I LOVE this idea as a brooder. Not only is it probably better than a heat lamp in so many different ways, but its also just so darn cute. Your little set up is adorable. I think I'll be trying this next time I hatch out some chicks.
