Yes she did lay eggs and then just seemed to stop. I certainly hope it's not cancer. She is such a sweet chicken. I imagine it's possible and I do think she is a bit thinner than she use to be though she eats and acts normal other than laying and going up to the perch.
First time asking a question on here in quite a while. I have a 16 month old BO who seems to have stopped laying for quite some time. At first I thought I just wasn't catching her in the nest, but now don't think that is the case. Her comb is usually pale pink and she has stopped getting on the...
Yes MrsLane, that is pretty much the same scenario that I encountered. Since then I have had only one other such egg laid from the perch over night. I'm sure however it wont be the last.
Thanks for the information. Today I got 4 perfectly normal eggs. I will just keep an eye on things and hopefully it was just one of those occasional odd egg occurrences.
I have 8 laying hens, all laying since late fall, early winter. Their eggs have been almost perfect with just one or two odd ones over the months. Now, within 2 days I found a rubber egg in the nest box and 2 under the roost. I don't feed layer feed because I read it was too much calcium for...
Be patient. Believe me, I know it's hard. I'm still waiting for some of my late bloomers to start laying also. I found with the shorter days, that even my breeds that typically lay early took longer to start. I have 2 Golden Comets, one has been laying for weeks, the other laid her first egg...
I went out and shoveled some paths in the run, then tossed some scratch and meal worms. That brought them out and they seem to be getting used to the snow under their feet. I think as long as they have a dry coop to go into they will be just fine.
7 of my nine birds happily found their way to the coop. The other two apparently didn't want to walk through the snow and were perched in pine trees. After a bit of crawling around under the tree I managed to get them and carry them home. Silly hens.
Finally got my first egg this week! Not however from the girls I expected to be laying. I'm getting perfect little blue eggs from Mabel my Easter Egger. I got her as a pullet and wasn't sure of her age. Apparently now old enough to lay. My others are 24 weeks and still nothing. Trying to be...
I have 5 hens that are almost 21 weeks old. Two Gold Comets (sex links) , 2 BO and 1 RIR. I thought for sure there would be eggs by now from the Comets. They've had red combs and wattles for a couple weeks now. Still no eggs. I know they could be laying outside but I've looked everywhere and...
Most likely you could put them together at night. Every post I've read seems to say that fighting will be at a minimum or not at all while perched for the night. It seemed good in my case. Since you have two separate runs, you would just have to separate them in the morning till they start to...
Thanks for the information. It's been about 2 weeks. I have extra water and feed in the run but I will add it to the coop also. Your are right donrae, I would hope they get down for food and water or as you say they would be dead. I really want to enjoy my small vacation and not be worried about...
I have 9 birds in my little flock. 6 are 18 weeks old and consist of one Rooster and 5 hens. One is 9 weeks old and 2 are unknown because I got them from a farm. My guess is around 12 weeks. The older ones were all raised together and the younger 3 were introduced. Things are just fine in the...
Over the past 2 weeks I have lost 3 of 4 chicks to hawks, despite them being in cages or pens. Now I'm left with 1 six week old chick to move into the coop with 9 older pullets. It seems so small to not have a similar sized friend with it. Not sure what to do. I did make boxes with a small...
This approximately 12 week old easter egger was named Nora but I believe Norman may be better suited. This is my first little flock so I'm learning as I go. The good news is that whether Nora or Norman, it can stay.
