I'm new to incubating eggs, and may have to soon since ours seem to have given up, but why aren't you able to open the incubator until Friday? I'm trying to find as much info on incubation as possible, but I'm unsure what to search for. There doesn't seem to be much info on late incubation...
We have three hens who started sitting several weeks ago. They have since, about four or so days ago, hatched seven eggs. Now it seems they're ignoring the eggs they have left - we think the two other hens laid eggs a week or so after the first. It does seem like they sit on them at night still...
I realize it's been a while, but I thought I should update you all anyway. I did as you guys suggested and got her some chick vitamins. She was doing better for a while until one morning I went to check on her and she was gone. I had her in the bathroom, which we had been renovating some time...
She does have an appetite and does move around (it's just difficult for her to walk correctly). She's not entirely able to get to her food, so I go in and hand feed her often. But I'll get some just in case. Could I feed her the vitamins until she shows symptoms?
Well, I just went to make sure she's eating and drinking, and I see this redish-brown stool:
I'm not positive, but is that blood in her stool? If so, what does it mean? If anything.
Thanks. Hopefully it's just the vitamin deficiency. If it's Marek's, how much do I have to worry about the other chicks? In the pdf it says it's highly contagious, and she was the runt of the litter, so I don't know if that put her at a disadvantage and the others don't have to worry, or maybe...
I have a baby chick, about 2 weeks old, who's injured. I noticed it last night, but thought she was just really tired - she was laying on the floor with one of her legs in front of her and the other in back. This morning I noticed she was the same way, I picked her up and fed her by hand. She...
Thanks for the reply. The space is 3x3x1. There are six chicks.
I'd love to let them out in the house, but we don't have a good space where they wouldn't go hiding under things. Not to mention we have a couple of dogs that are too curious for our liking.
I'll have to see about fencing off...
Our chicks are about one week old. Just a bit ago I went in to check on them and found one had sap on her beak. I gently cleaned most of it off with a damp napkin and my fingers - and found the source of the sap and cleaned that up as well. Her beak is still a little sticky. Does anyone know how...
This is my first time taking care of baby chicks. They are a little over a week old. I'm wondering if we should offer some more exercise. I haven't seen them being very active. Should we take them out and let them flap their wings and try to fly a bit? Their brooder is about a foot deep, with...
