Thanks for you contribution. The coop was actually just fine, the predator(s) breached the run I had. Unfortunately, the shed is a lot smaller than it may seem, and is mostly taken up by our ride-on lawnmower and the rest is filled with tools. Relocating that will be too difficult, as there is...
Hello. After my small coop was destroyed by predators half a year ago, it's been abandoned in the backyard. I want to start up again, but I definitely need a new run- the previous one wasn't too secure. Considering the unusual shape of the coop, the relatively small amount of space, and that...
I've had the same thing... Fox repeatedly came in and killed chickens, until every single one was dead... Once you patch up a defense, they find a new weak spot. Make sure to consider every single possible entrance to the coop. Absolutely everything. A fox could probably break into Fort Knox if...
Like the title says, one of my chickens was killed by a fox, but not eaten. The fox had easy access to the other chickens, but they were unharmed. Any idea why this might have happened? I'd imagine the fox would have eaten her if it was even remotely hungry.
I am just about ready to bring my chickens outside, but am worried about their safety, as there are hawks in the area, and their run is too small for them to be in at all times. Should I expand the run and wait for them to grow up completely, or should I be alright letting them out as they are...
Thanks for all the great advice. I will modify my blueprints (sketches on a paper towel) to proper dimensions.
Have a great day.
And no, I don't live in Siberia.

Is 1m by 1m (plus a 1m by .5m nesting area) ok for 4 chickens?
Is 1m too high for the "living room" area?
Can I insulate the coop by making the...
After recently buying chicks, I've noticed that they have some peculiar behavior. From what I am told, chicks stay together, under the lamp when cold, and apart, away from the lamp when hot. HOWEVER! My chicks seem to sleep together away from the lamp! They are not complaining, so the...
