For sale: 4 year old custom designed and built chicken coop and covered run. It was built with both function, appearance, and most importantly, SAFETY, in mind. We call it the Fort Knox of chicken coops, because no predators can get in there!
The coop/run is 10 feet long, 4 foot wide, approx 8...
So after the verdict on my buff chick, I would appreciate you all looking at the other ameraucana. Hoping at least this one is a gal. She hatched 4/17, but was in a pen with a lot of others before i got her, and was getting bullied over food. Hence the small size for her age.
This chicken already has a new home, if the majority of folks here are correct and it's a rooster. My friend who gave it to me ready said she'd take it (and keep it!) Since there are a couple dissenters on gender, I figure I'll give it another week and then send back. I do understand the...
The chicken has not been on my child's lap since I started this discussion. I didn't know the gender, obviously -- that's why I'm here. And I greatly appreciate so many providing info and opinions. The lecture I'll skip though.
It really is red (compared to my other Ameraucana of the same age.) I've not heard any crowing, though my husband swears he did. My obnoxious Andalusian hen does sound like a rooster though, so you never know.
She has some rounded feathers and some pointed ones in the tail area. So hard to say !
That's interesting. Though I don't don't know I'd call this chicken friendly as much as I would docile. It's nervous when you pick it up, but when you put it in my child's lap, it settles down and is very gentle. It gets beat up by the other young one in its pen (a very small pullet.)
Really? I don't much about this, can you tell me how you know? Thanks!
(I do know my friend bought him from a prominent breeder, and definitely paid for an ameraucana. She's going to be ******.)
Seems like cockerel is the general consensus. Oh man... My kid is going to be bummed. I've never had a chicken that just cuddles up on your lap like that. Not allowed to have a rooster though. What a bummer.
Thank you so much.
I have a playhouse coop -- very small. I put the brooder on the floor of the run for a couple days, but I guess that wasn't enough. Really not enough space in the coop to section off, but I could in the run (predator proof.).
I have three big girls and two chicks...
I let the older girls in because they were screaming to lay, and my queen bee beat the crap out of the chantecler. I couldn't even get her off. I threw her out in the yard to access the damage... She flew 6 feet over the pen fence to get back at the chick. Another beating.
I know pecking...
Last night was the first night my 10 week girls were integrated into the coop. I found them both hiding from the others in a minuscule space in the morning -- didn't go well. I have them separated again for the moment because my chantecler chick is sneezing and rubbing at her neck. A cold...
So my two month old girls are about to move from my house into the coop with my other three girls (2 are 4 years old, 1 is a year.). I'm very confused about feeding. Technically my young ones should be on grower, and my older girls on layer, but there's no way to insure they'll eat that way...
All of my birds did this, and occasionally still do. I used to leave them for the night up there, but after we lost one to a coon, they're not allowed anymore.
While I can manhandle them out of the tree, that can be annoying. So I just go out before dusk, and start throwing dry oatmeal into...
So we've always had hearty cold-weather breeds due to being in NYS. My older son, who is special needs, wanted a new chicken for his birthday. When we went to the breeder, she was so touched by him that she offered him any pullet in the coop, free as a gift. It was the sweetest thing. As...
