This chicken is listed as a girl at the shelter and I'm scheduled to meet her and possibly adopt, but I'm wondering if there's a chance she may actually be a boy. She looks like some kind of silkie mix and I thought that would explain her "look" (she doesn't look much like my silkie hen at home...
Yes, her breathing and behavior is normal. I also worm her every month.
Could this be a clogged nostril? I did some searching around this forum for similar problems and this looks very similar to that, but I wanted to see what others think.
I don’t know if this is anything to worry about. She’s had this for several months now and her behavior and weight has been completely normal. She’s three years old. A few months ago I barely noticed it and assumed it was maybe a minor injury that’s already healing, but it hasn’t reduced or gone...
A few days ago we adopted our first silkie, Sylvia (named after Sylvia Plath since we met & adopted her on Sylvia Plath's birthday). She's 14 months old and I assume her prior caretaker trimmed her feathers around the eyes? Such a sweet personality.
Hi, I'm also in the Pasadena area and interested, but would only be able to house one hen if you're fine with separating them. I assume you prefer to keep them together.
I hope you can find a good home for them! They're beautiful, I wish you luck.
Hi everyone. I'm wondering about issues to look out for when putting a silkie and barred rock together, both hens, as the only two chickens in a "flock."
I have one barred rock hen (recently turned 4 years old) who is currently by herself, so not really the ideal situation. I'm thinking about...
Hi, I'm located in the Pasadena area (Los Angeles) and am posting to see if anybody here has a hen in need of a home. My flock has recently been reduced to one hen, a 4 year old barred rock named Prudence. I am looking for a friend for her. If requested, I can provide a photo of the yard/space...
Hello all.
I recently lost a chicken that was about 9 months old in a sudden death. Externally she appeared very healthy, and I had not noticed any sickness or symptoms. I sent her to a lab for a necropsy and it is "presumed" to be Marek's Disease. They stated she was in good nutritional...
I have a barred rock girl who is always complaining and crying! She starts complaining immediately any time she's put back in the coop, while the others are content to eat and drink. She's also the first to come running whenever I have treats, all the while panicking like she can't get there...
Ok, she's still eating and drinking. This is probably normal and she needs time to recover. The stuff dripping out looks like egg matter. Sorry if I made this thread prematurely. I panicked because I haven't had this yet.
Hi everyone, my chicken just laid a shell-less egg and now she is weak. She is standing still by herself, with her eyes half-closed. There seems to be some meaty-looking pinkish stuff outside her vent, and it is dripping. Could this be a prolapse? Something else?
She's young, less than a year...
Hello everyone. I'm based in the Pasadena, CA area. I'm looking for a good forever home for my young BR rooster.
My post in the re-homing forum can be found HERE
Hello everyone!
I need to find a home for my young barred rock rooster, who is going on 12 weeks as of now. He hasn't started crowing yet. He's been raised in a great home with plenty of attention and free-range space. Unfortunately (yet naturally) I have grown somewhat attached. I would love...
Going on five weeks...
This one is a boy, right? :/
Color comparison with the other chicks that I'm pretty sure are pullets:
(pullet)
(suspected roo on the left)
Thanks
