    My ducks are jerks

*Update* I caught the ducks about a week after this post. I managed to scare them while they were under the bridge which caused Draco and Andrea to fly homeward and the other drake to (quickly) waddle home. I managed to get the boys to walk into the pen, but had to trudge through the mud around...

    My ducks are jerks

*Rant Begin* Well, I had two ducks and two drakes (miniature appleyards). One of the ducks disappeared a few weeks ago, possibly foxes as I've seen those nasty things around lately. The other duck , Andrea, normally spends her days wandering between the water troughs as she is a good flier and...

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Especially true when you refuse to buy cage eggs, buying free range can get quite expensive. Not to mention the sheer joy that I get from my chickens and ducks. Well worth any expenses incurred by the dozen or so of them

    Pictures Of Your Little Ducklings!!

My miniature silver appleyard and my pekin have been sharing a nest. I doubt any of the pekin eggs were fertilised as my drakes are miniatures and can't really hit the spot if you know what i mean. This is my first batch of ducklings but as I don't know how old either duck is, I'm not sure if...

My pekin duckling lost its quack/voice

This week I am poor and have no money so the vet isn't an option until Tuesday. I did manage to get hold of some poultry worming liquid and treated her with that, she was looking a little better yesterday but I will consult the vet when I get paid...hopefully the treatment clears it up for her.

My pekin duckling lost its quack/voice

And after further observation at feeding time, I can see she does seem to be acting as though she has an obstruction of some kind, however I still can't see anything stuck in her throat

My pekin duckling lost its quack/voice

Thanks for the reply. I did get hold of her to have a look down her throat and couldn't see anything unusual, mind you I don't really know what to look for. I did notice tody while I was squirting them that she does seem to have a bit of an issue whilst trying to drink - kind of like she...

My pekin duckling lost its quack/voice

I also have a Pekin duck that seems to have lost her quack...she is definitely female as she lays me a lovely large egg every day. For the last few days she has been constantly making this odd noise. Could she have problems with the laying of an egg or something?

    Raising Guinea Fowl 101

My four guineas get on fine with my 8 ducks, 13 chickens and 2 roosters. They tend to keep to themselves mostly.

    Free ranging pros and cons?

Our two Border Collie crosses barely even look at our poultry, although they do help me round them back into the coop. The two roosters definitely look after the girls, but our Pekin duck, Jemima, takes care of the ducks (including our two docile drakes). I used to let them all free range every...

    Raising Guinea Fowl 101

I recently adopted some guineas, an adult with three keets. I was unprepared for how small the keets are as the woman told me they weren't really small. As a result, I have to keep them in a certain section of my coop. The adult can fly in and out of the area which is fine. I had to catch the...

    Australian Newbie

Just an update. Sad news, our budgie, Cheeky Monkey, got taken out of the air mid-flight on Christmas morning by Cray-bait. The cat was not spoken to for a few weeks, but we have now forgiven her, seeing as she was only doing what is natural. CM now rests in the wine barrel with the tomatoes...

    Australian Newbie

Hi, I'm Kitty, from the southern region of Western Australia. (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? (2) How many chickens do you have right now? (3) What breeds do you have? I never had my own chickens but my partner, Dave, has grown up with them and has his own...
