This is Dee my Easter Egger Bantam. She is 2 years old. She has been doing this stumbling walk for the past 3-4wks. She eats and drinks. She can fly up into the coop. Checked her for mites, no mites. Also her poop looks normal- no worms noted. I feed my layer hens organic layer crumble. My other...
I have Easter Egger bantam chickens. This is a pic of the usual size of my eggs. I got my first fart egg today probably from my Easter Egger pullet. It's cute. Gonna fry it up tomorrow and make a tiny over easy egg :D Guess I will find out if there is a yolk inside it.
LivInBliss ,
Just wondering what is your progress on mouse problem?
I too just realized I have a mice in the chicken run. I put 3 snap traps last night and caught 3 mice. Ugh. Gonna seal up possible entry points this weekend and continue snap trapping them.
My coop is 2 feet off ground...
Dont know what the original outcome was for the person who started this thread but I can tell you mine... I got home and they were a happy
family. The cutest chicken thing I have ever experienced.
Here is a video of my Easter Egger bantam and her adopted babies
and here is a pic...

Just wondering what your final outcome was. I did the same thing last night and this morning i tried to check the chicks beneath my broody Easter Egger bantam and she pecked, but lightly the chicks head back under her. I know she may believe they just hatched and need warmth for a few days but...
I have a Chicago yard approx 40ftx40ft. Enclosed with chain link fence. My 3 bantam hens have a 3ftx3ft enclosed coop with a 9ft x 3ft long enclosed chicken run. I leave them locked inside when I go to work, but they have the run access all day. Usually I let them free range for at least 30min...
Thanks for all the compliments... the spoon handle was actually from our first condo kitchen cabinets when we just got married :) The other window has a fork handle. The windows were yard sale finds- never used Pella windows - nicer than my own home.
Thanks for the suggestion... Funny cuz I just bought my first bag of PDZ last week. Really makes a difference. We are really enjoying our flock of three:)
This is the short version of a long story.
I told my DH I was gonna buy chicks. And I did.
I told him if he didn't build me a coop I would make one myself. And I did.
I told him I needed a stronger coop for our Chicago winter and if he didn't make me one soon I would be using his power tools...
Welcome! This has also been my first winter raising chickens and it really has been challenging. I only have three bantam Easter Eggers. It was so awesome to get eggs! I live on a city lot...but boy would I love 20acres. I am pretty new to BYC too but am in love with raising Bantams.
Thanks for info. I am learning a lot from having chickens and about how overly clean we all are. I am gonna NOT wash eggs unless completely nasty, but with three bantams don't see how that can really happen. Keeping the bloom on will keep them fresher longer and allows mother nature to do its...
My chickens just started laying eggs. They are coming out very clean and I simply store them in the fridge unwashed. I don't want to remove the protective bloom.
I would like to wash right before using the egg. I was wondering how most of you wash your eggs right before cooking the egg...
Just wondering what Chicago chicken keepers doin for Mondays prediction of -12F high , -16 F low. I haven't heated my coop yet. I have three bantams so a bit worried about these temps. Heat or no heat that is my question...
28weeks and I got my first egg today from one of my three Easter Egger Bantams. It was soooo fun finding it this morning... I had to look twice to believe what I was seeing. For awhile there I thought I had dud chickens. I am glad they deposit more than just poop :)
Also in Chicago, and last night was -2F. I have 3 Easter egger bantams who have never had any eggs yet, they are about 6months old now. No heat in my plywood coop. Just pine shavings and hay. Heated dog waterer was able to keep water unfrozen all night. I left the coop windows cracked open for...
