The Rough Draft for a New Coop

Fewer cuts was not something I had thought of. That's a good point, I'll play with the plans again and see what I can come up with. I've been rethinking the chicken wire under the roosts, thanks for laying that to rest for me. :) I honestly hadn't given it as far as if the floor doesn't...

Yeah I was kinda hoping that the roosting area would count as more sq footage.

The Rough Draft for a New Coop

Quote: BRILLIANT!!! See, this is exactly why I posted! Little things like this! :D Question: If I'm doing a sand/gravel litter, would I still want to have their exit elevated so much? Also, poop boards are a MUST! I'm planning on putting chicken wire under the roosting bars to keep the...

The Rough Draft for a New Coop

I figured that I could post this and see if there is anyone who could give some tips/advice about the layout of my new coop BEFORE I go and build it. So what do you think? (It's 10'x10', split down the middle at the 5' mark. 1cm = 1')

How Many Chicks to a Bar

Poop Boards are a MUST! ;) I've been planning on having the boards sloped so I can scrape them down before raking up in the coop. Poop Boards will also protect where I'm going to place the food gutter. The nesting boxes will end up protecting the waterers from poo off the roosting bars. :D

How Many Chicks to a Bar

Excellent! I was going to put a slopped cover on the nests anyway, placing the bars over that should be no problem at all. Thanks so much!

How Many Chicks to a Bar

That's something else that I'm concerned about because the summers can get really hot. I've been toying with the idea of adding an extra bar or two over the nesting boxes to give the ladies options--especially those who will end up on the bottom of the pecking order. But I read somewhere that...

How Many Chicks to a Bar

I'm working on a new coop design and am trying to figure out what my new flock will need as far as room goes on the roost. Hopefully we will be able to have 19 hens and a rooster. The current plan has the roost section at 4' deep by 5' wide, assuming 12" between bars, I'm planning on having...

    I'm from Spokane Washington!!!

Hi! We're basically neighbors! I'm in Cheney, and am on year two of chickens--I LOVE CHICKENS! Anyway, I'm new to forums and the like but have had some fun and entertaining encounters with chickens. :)
