For the past 3 months one of my chickens has been acting odd. She will be fine and happy, have good poop, fly and run around, but then another day she will be lethargic, wont eat, only drink, poops white liquid. Then the next day everything is fine, good poop, eats and drinks, but then 4 days...
Right now we only have 2 red star/ sexed link hens, after loosing some to sickness. We have never introduced new chickens to them before, and we are planning on getting 4 new baby chicks, so a total of six chickens, but we are wondering if we should get 4 new chicks, all the same breed, or would...
It does seem like she is having trouble breathing in and out. I put electrolytes in the water in case of respiratory problem. I will see if she keeps the moaning up if she is just having trouble digesting. Thanks for the insight.
Yesterday one of the hens got a toad and ate it hole and this morning she is moaning. She is active, pooping, eating and drinking fine.
She moans about every breath she takes. She also laid her egg. Is she just sick or should I take action to do something?
I have used a red heat lamp in the coop ever since they were chicks. I haven't had any problems but insulation is more important than heat to keep them warm, but I also use it to get the chickens to come inside.
I have a neighbor who has some silkies and some orpingtons and they get along fine. I have all one breed but if you have all different breeds they probably won't gang up on one.
I give both and I think cracked corn it is easier on the digestive system because my hens won't eat the big pieces of whole corn. I give corn, layer feed, and some different kinds of seeds.
We feed our chickens meat once in a while and I now others who do it much more often and the hens still lay and act normal. Today I gave them some left over hamburger and they seem fine when I checked on them and they loved it.
My breed is red stars or red sexed link. The first hen started laying at 18 and half weeks. Red stars are bred with rir I think. Depending on how much light you have you could but the red star is bred to lay early.
my four red star hens are 21 weeks old and started laying at 19 weeks. They are pumping out 4 eggs a day. We had a hawk attack and they took shelter and had no injuries. Before they go into their coop they wipe their beak and bathe as often as they can. They dig up bugs and grubs. I can pet them...
