    The Middle Tennessee Thread

I spent a few hours last night searching for roll out nesting box plans. Does anyone here use them? Know a source for a good plan? I have a friend that will build them for me if I can decide exactly what I want. My coop is an 8'x10' converted shed. I have 16 hens now, all laying. Come...

No snow here but I am further south. :-) Looking forward to some sun today. My 9mo border collie has been going stir crazy locked up in the house and I am getting a little tired of throwing his ball. I don't have electricity to the girls' coop. I prefer not to mix heating elements with...

    The Middle Tennessee Thread

My 16 hens must have been angry with me for shutting them up in the coop on Tuesday. They only gave me 5 eggs Wednesday. With the nicer weather, they are back to giving me 10 eggs a day. How did the rest of you fair? I can imagine we're all happy with the nicer weather!

    The Middle Tennessee Thread

I wanted to introduce myself in this thread. I am about 30 miles north of the Alabama line near I-65. I see I have some Lewisburg neighbors here and am wondering if there are others that live close. I'm always looking for like-minded friends!! I'm not new to chickens or to BYC. Just never...

    Something damaging eggs

I've had a hen that ate eggs before. I suspect that was the cause of the pieces of shell and yolk remnants.

    Something damaging eggs

I hadn't thought about it being a crack from the weather. It HAS been unseasonably cold but this started before that. None of the eggs I gathered were frozen yesterday and it definitely was not warm enough for them to thaw. Still, food for thought. I'll try to post a picture. I'd like to...

    Something damaging eggs

Something has been damaging my eggs. The first thing I noticed was a clear liquid, similar to thick water, on some of the eggs. Then I started noticing a single line about 2" long in the shells like someone had taken a sharp knife and scrapped off a bit of the shell. It doesn't look like...
