Oh what a bad influence you were on me!!!! I went to check out your seed calendar and ended up ordering 30.00 worth of seeds. Or maybe you were a good influence, they were all medicinal seeds so look at all the money ill save on doctors, lol. Either way, thank you posting that, never heard of...
You can pinch off pepper plants, they'll branch out more and you'll get more peppers. I especially do this with my poblanos since they get so tall. Last year I did it with my lemon spice jalapenos, and they were like little puff balls in the garden, maybe a foot tall, but they were so loaded...
Got some of the pots cleaned and wrapped with copper tape. A lot more of them to do, but trying to find time to squeeze that chore in. Got to pot up all my seedlings tomorrow, the jalapenos finally popped up in their cells.
my jalapenos finally broke ground! Ill be potting everything up tomorrow. They were the last seeds to come up, as usual. Planted all on 2/25 so not too bad germination time. 12 days. Everything else was up by 7 days, but those darn pokey peppers were holding me up.
For me it depends on how old the seed is. New seed, 2 seeds per cell. 2-3 year old seed =3 seeds per cell, and so on. Keeping the seeds in the crisper drawer of the fridge helps them last longer, I've successfully used 10 year old seed from some of the longer lasting seeds like beets.
Thinned the seedlings, and filled small pots with soil anticipating potting those babies up soon. Still waiting on those jalapenos to break the soil. Darn pokey things. Lots of rain here today, so still haven't got the copper tape on the new pots I filled. Maybe tomorrow.
Hope you love your bug netting as much as I do mine. For me its a game changer, keep the bugs out instead of fighting and spraying all the time. Doesn't stop the slugs and snails, but that's what the copper tape is for, lol.
Happy day! My peppers are emerging, just the Anaheim and poblanos, no sign of the jalapenos yet, but they'll be along soon. Planted the seed trays on the 25th, so pretty good germination time.
Finished amending the soil in all 50 of my 5 gallon buckets. Vegetable garden has been ready for...
Yeah, its castor oil. I've got the mole max repellant going also. Volex in the active vole holes. 2 Solar repellers , the kind that vibrate and make annoying beeps in each bed. Traps. And the garlic, of course. Multi prong attack on those buggars, cuz I think I have the most stubborn voles in...
I'd heard garlic helped repel voles in the garden, so planted it last fall all around the perimeters of every bed. I can definitely report back that it doesn't work! I'm working on eradicating the voles now, before I plant my cool weather plants in a couple weeks. Volex seems to be working well...
All my seeds are up except the peppers and huckleberries, they'll be up soon. Can't plant the onions, beets and carrots til saint pattys day so just a waiting game now. Lots of irises, daylillies, daffodils and hyacinth have broken ground, and the true mark of spring to me....the forsythia is...
Lol, I did the same thing with my jicama seeds. Everything else planted in the cells, and started soaking the jicama seeds that I'd forgotten to soak first. I then promptly forgot about them for 3 days, lol. I spotted them on the table, and reminded myself to plant them as soon as I finished...
Fixing up all my pots for planting this spring. Dumping the used potting soil in the wheelbarrow, add a scoop of compost, A scoop of new potting mix, and a scoop of vermiculite, mix it all up and put it back in the pot. Some of my pots are large totes, 5 gallon buckets, cat litter buckets...
Was flipping my compost pile over to an adjacent spot and found several potatoes sprouted at the bottom of the pile. How did they survive all the negative temps we've had this winter I will never know! I replanted them, those tough little buggars deserve a chance to grow, lol. Got all my seeds...
Carefully transplant, that's the problem for me. I'm so clutzy! I just throw the seeds in seed starting mix, no heat mat, no humidity cover, just plant them 1/4 inch down. They come up the same time as the tomatoes. Still have to thin them since I plant 2 seeds in each cell, and that's where the...
