    Plastic Mesh in Incubator

The humidity may have been a little high. Around 65% is usually the best, But it also can have something to do with the health and nutrition of the hen and rooster. I'm so sorry you lost the chicks. I know how devastating it can be. :(

    Wyoming Unite!!!!

I think March is a little early For trying to start anything In a greenhouse unless there is some kind of heat in it at night. Last year's calendar showed that we had 10 degrees in the middle of April. We will usually start radishes and cabbages late in April and we will put tomatoes in there...

    Old Age?

I have 4 old chickens that are between the ages of 10 to 13. And 25 younger ones from 1 to 8. Chickens will live a long time if they are well fed and protected. My chickens free range thru the day but are always confined at night. :old

    Guinea Fowl Feeder Help Needed

Guineas are experts at wasting feed no matter what you use! I've tried the self-filling container like you have. I've also tried hanging feeders and that makes it worse. Right now I have one of the large dog bowls with a heavy rock in it. It is set up on bricks at their chest heights...

Can i give 5 month old peachicks heat?

They are fully feathered and shouldn't need heat. They are probably just scared in a new environment. But even my older birds enjoy little heat when it is cold. :)

How many Guinea Hens will an owl eat in a year?

We have some pretty bitter and long winters here in Wyoming with lots of snow. Our guineas survive because they have enclosed shelters with plenty of feed and water. If you don't plan on caring for the guineas properly it would be animal cruelty to just turn them loose. They are very unlikely to...

How many Guinea Hens will an owl eat in a year?

Do not do it! It's not fair to the guineas who are almost blind at night. You will just be feeding the wildlife. :old

Any good pics of your guineas?

You wouldn't call a tom turkey a rooster. Or a male goose a rooster. A male guinea is a cock. If you don't know that is one thing but once you know the correct word then it should be used. I mean no offense to anyone but I agree with R2elk. :old

Any good pics of your guineas?

It takes two people! Those big long wings are the hardest part to get the elastic over. He wasn't tame but he wasn't as wild as most guineas

Any good pics of your guineas?

This is my favorite guinea picture. It shows Goofy, my 5 year old male wearing his chicken saddle . His back was raw from being attacked by the other guineas but he liked the saddle so much I put it on him every breeding season.

How long will keets stay with mom

From my experience with guinea parents raising their keets, those little ones will always be with their parents as adults. Guineas do make good parents. It's just that they don't care for humans interfering with the way they want to raise their kids! :old

    Surprise Keets

Guinea hens can be vicious when defending their eggs or keets! When the keets are a day or two old she will want to take them out to free range. That's where she will lose them. They won't be able to keep up with her. It sounds like you have done the right thing by confining the keets, but after...

Incubators - how much does brand matter?

I tried several different makes of 'cheapies' in my early years of hatching. They were mostly unreliable at keeping the temperature constant. I eventually bought a Genesis Hovabator and have had several of them. They are easy to see in to and are very dependable. I have 2 of them now. They will...

    Hen or Roo?

At 6 weeks old the only way to know if they are hens is if they make a 2 syllable sound like 'goback, goback, goback.' 6 weeks is about the earliest that you will hear it. A male cannot make this sound. And by the way a male guinea is called a cock not a rooster. :old

    Two roosters...

Why not keep them both until they are fully mature. You don't really know what their personalities will be until they are 6 or 7 months old. If they start fighting one of them will have to go. But with 15 hens two roosters is not too many. I have two roosters now and as long as one of them is...

    Humidity Headaches/Newbie At Incubation

70% humidity for a short time will not hurt the eggs. When I first add more water to the incubator it will sometime splash a little and this can cause a spike in the humidity. If the humidity doesn't go back to 45 to 55% in a few hours I will slightly open the lid to let some humidity out. :old
