I was given this pair and told they come from Spitzhauben eggs. I am doubtful. The hen has a small crest, the roo no crest. They don't look like the right thing. They are about 6 months old, both supposedly hatched from the same clutch. They are the size of a large bantam (like a Brabanter...
To be honest, the chicks in the top pic look alot like Porcelain d'Uccles to me. I have some that look just like that. Purebred Brahmas come Light (white w/grey), Buff (beige w/black) and Dark (dark grey pattern). Not sure what you have there.
I have a couple of RIR's and they are a much...
Feathered legs are Brahmas, Cochins, d'Uccles. Also Silkies, but silkies will have 5 toes and black skin. Count the toes and look at the skin. That will narrow it down. Then check the other 3 breeds pictures. Good luck
I have had very recent experience of the same thing with bantam chicks from Ideal. Last week my friend received her shipment and out of 6 or 7 bantams she has one left after just a few days. I received my 7 bantams on Friday (shipped last Wednesday) and have lost 2 already. Mine are under...
If left to their own devices, the mother broody will keep the chicks until they are 2 months old. Mine seem to send off the chicks almost exactly on the 2 month date. She will bring them with her into the main flock if you let her. Then the chicks have her to protect them from the other...
My Japanese Fantail started crowing at 2 1/2 months, the Sebright at 2 months, the BBR OEGB at 3 months. They all had red combs and wattles by that time. I was surprised with the Sebright being so young.
Well, it makes sense. I have a Gold Laced Wyandotte bantam hen, and I thought the gold-laced bird looked too bulky to be a Wyandotte. However, looking at the saddle I can see how it could be a roo, and therefore it would be bigger. Still would love to know about the little "splash". Maybe...
Well, when I picked them up at the feed store, they were in different brooders marked "Assorted Bantams" so it's possible they were from different shipments. The black one is definitely smaller. Looking back at their baby pictures I would say that, yes, the black could be a week behind the...
Bought some hatchery chicks from the feed store: Bantam Assortment (Ideal). Having a little trouble identifying some of them.
Is this the Blue Breasted Red OEG? Just started crowing.
Is this a Dark Cornish? Hen or roo?
This one has black legs, black beak, black eyes and tiny black...
A black and a white. Hatchery chicks from a bantam assortment. Can you tell yet?
The white one. I'm thinking hen:D
The black one. I'm thinking roo:/
Either way, they were a great find in a brooder bin full of chicks at the feed store
Hi. I am new to the group. I have heard there is a Marek's vaccine in tablet form that can be broken into 4 doses for use with smaller numbers of chicks. The last sign I saw of it was from a company called Clausing Company in Florida. The reference was from 2000. I called the number and it...
