Ahh, that would make sense. I did think about moult, but then dismissed it as I thought it was more of an autumn time of year they moulted. Would explain why she hasn't come back into lay.
I've never kept Orpingtons before, and this is my first time keeping chickens since moving from the UK to...
Hi all
I wonder if you could pass on some wisdom to me :)
I have 2 Orpington chickens who, as soon as the spring arrive both went broody. I managed to get them unbroody pretty quickly but they weren't laying.
A few weeks later I took in 2 young ISA brown chickens, who had been slightly...
Ok thank you.
She has been on antibiotics before in January. So maybe that's the cause. I have been given them all some pro biotic yoghurt, and they do have ACV in their water.
I'll up the amount of yoghurt and add some minced raw garlic to it. I've got some Worm Enda Plus, so I'll give her...
Hi all
My youngest Orpington chicken is 19 weeks old and constantly seems to have 'runny watery poo' I have checked the poo chart and all the poo's fall into the normal categories.
Other than that she's totally healthy, lively, eats really well and has a clean vent (other than few mucky...
Hi
I'm having the same problem with my girls, and was just going to post a similar question.
I have tried several times to get them to eat the layers pellets, to no avail, and they just seem to try and graze all the time. So this afternoon, I put some in a bowl and put some hot water on them...
Well after my post a few days ago worrying about the girls being 29 weeks and still no egg. Today we finally got one!!! I had a feeling something was going on this morning when I was cleaning the coop and She kept coming in and out.
I did notice that she was struggling to get into the nesting...
Thanks Fatcatz
I won't be stewing her, or the others, love them far too much for that. I think I will just leave them for nature to take it's course. (also too complicated to get light down at their coop we've decided)
This is my first time keeping Orpingtons. I kept other breeds back when I...
Thanks. Will have a read of these. My youngest is 17 weeks, so will that be ok for light?
Guess I'm going to have to bide my time with these girls. Patience is not one of my virtues!
Thanks :-)
Just checked the stats for this year and our lowest amount of hours for the year will be in June and will be 9hrs 48 mins. I was wondering if putting some light down for a couple of hours would help? If so would mornings or evenings be better?
Our average lowest daily temp in winter would be 8...
I know it's just a matter of time and I need to be patient but really!!! My 2 older girls (both Orpingtons) are now 29 weeks and still nothing. I'm so impatient now. One of them is getting redder and she is so noisy clucking, so hopefully this means something is on the way. Our days are...
I never knew that lol. Wish we were on declining temps too. Yesterday was a whopping 42 degrees!
what's the best amount daylight hours for egg laying then?
Thanks
Thanks everyone, it's good to get confirmation of what you think you know!
Although we're not on declining day light here, I'm in Australia so still full blown summer, which this year has been very hot and dry and a lot of days recently have been between 35 - 42 degrees. Can the heat affect...
Hi I'm brand new to the site.
I've kept chickens before when I was back in the UK and had a Maran, Welsummer and Cream Legbar.
Recently I got some more chickens here in Adelaide. I struggled to find what I had. So I got 2 Orpington crosses and a silkie polish cross. The silkie polish turned...
