This is a Whiting True Blue. Never raised them before. I would have sworn Pullet. But look a "shim" now. No pronounced waddle or comb but the tail looks rooster-ish. Appreciate your thoughts. [/IMG][/IMG]
My wife and I had trouble getting good organic chicken feed and what we did find was $40 a bag and up. So we looked around and found Countryside Organics. To save money, we order by the pallet and wanted to offer it to other local chicken keepers. We are located in Chester, NJ and are selling it...
Hi everyone. Even though we have acreage our girls are in a large run due to predator activity early on in our chicken experience.
Our run is 12x16 and is a dirt floor. It's starting to get stinky. I change the coop litter frequently, but what do I do about the run? Do I clean it? If so, how...

Best I could get. Whatever they are, they are skittish as all heck. These are from TSC. It's been suggested either tetra tint or light sussex
I bought once and I will never buy from again.
I bought 36 cornish cross from 2 different TSC's.
3 died(i'm ok with that that part),
3 are either Light Sussex or Tetra Tint(They are going into a now crowded coop)
8 are "who knows" but not meat birds(Im guessing Leghorns).
That leaves me...
I have 38 meaties going. They were bought in 3 batches from 2 different tractor supplies.
Here's the thing. There are about 8(about the size of my third buy) that are not growing anywhere near the rate of the others. When and how can I tell if these are meaties?
Can I keep meat birds on organic starter(since it has high protein) for the first 6 weeks then transfer them onto finisher?
Finding organic feeds here in NJ for meaties is a Herculean task.
I just brought home 18 Cornish crosses. My boys immediately started to try to name them etc. I tried telling them why they were here and they started getting upset. Now I'm second guessing myself. Help!
I'm thinking of raising some meat birds in my garden for both food and fertilizer. I dont want a permanent structure in my garden, more like something I can take down in 8 weeks.I dont want to be inhumane, but its a place for 8 weeks...Any thoughts or designs?
Just went over to TSC to pick up another bag of pine shavings and lo and behold they are sold out. The salesman there told me that they are out, the distribution warehouse is out, and they don't know when they area getting more in.
Great time to run out just before chick days!
