It's hot and one hen isn't laying

They are all walking just fine, the problem is, I don't know which hen it is. I am trying to find out today. They all are walking fine and don't seem to have any swollen parts. They are about 1 year and 3 months old.

It's hot and one hen isn't laying

So here in Utah it is very hot, our hens were laying good until yesterday, one has not layed for 2 days. That concerns me. They have plenty of cold fresh water and I put ice in it often, they have everything they need. One isn't laying at all. I have checked everywhere she could lay but i can't...

My chicken has a beak bleed

So my chicken got in a fight with another, she got a good size chunk taken out of her beak and it won't stop bleeding. I have taken her out of the coop from the others, i have washed the area and put pressure on it but it will not stop bleeding. She is now isolated from the others while I see if...

Can I put my girls outside yet?

I would love any advice, since we've never done this before. I have four 4-week old pullets who are covered in feathers. They've been living in a box in my laundry room and seem acclimated to indoor temps of 65-68, but they're getting stinky! The daytime temps here are 70-80's and the nights...

Chicks are lost in the mail. :( USPS has no idea where they are.

Nutri-drench--is that the same as Sav-a-chick? A powder that you put in their water? Or do you dropper it into them? I'm awaiting some chicks by mail due to arrive mid-April in Utah. I'm getting really worried about having to revive them! Advice anyone?

Is anyone using the Premier "heat plate" brooder for chicks?

So here's a newbie question: if I use a heat plate-type warmer for my new chicks, do I still need to monitor the temperature with a thermometer? Or do I not need to because they can escape the heat if they want?

    Ecoglow brooder--thermometer?

Hi Friends! We're awaiting our first chicks by mail and are getting our brooder all set up. We ordered an Ecoglow 20 and are wondering if we still need a thermometer, or if the chicks can self-regulate by going under/coming out etc? Thanks for any advice!

    Laying habitat

Hey! I heard somewhere that chickens lay their eggs better when it's quiet and dark. Is that true? If not what makes chickens better layers?

Hmmm...you guys might have convinced me. I'm trying to decide what I'll use in my brooder and this sounds pretty good. FlossyandPrissy--where in Utah are you? I'm in Riverton!

Does anyone live in Riverton, Utah?

Hi! I'm new here too (although you're not so new anymore!). We live in Riverton and are awaiting our mail shipment of 4 little Red Stars. We've never had chickens before and we're super excited for this adventure!

Chicken waterers? Do they work for chicks?

I am awaiting my first-ever shipment of chicks in the mail and am gathering supplies. I have a traditional chick-waterer, but I saw a clear plastic bottle with a little touch valve at our local feed store. The label said it "keeps water pristine". My question is, since I will need to dip the...

Anyone else EXCITED to be getting baby chicks in the mail soon??

We are SO excited to be getting our 4 little Red Star girl chicks in the mail from MyPetChicken.com the week of April 14th. We've never had chickens before! Somehow, my 13 year-old daughter talked me (easy) and my husband (less easy) into letting her raise some chicks. The two of them are now...
