Does anyone know what this might be?

Hello, i just went to pick up one of our 2 plymouth rocks tonight and felt something on her underbody. I had a look and found something that looks like a scabby type thing that looks much deeper and weirder than a scab. I know it looks like a scab from the pictures, but does anyone have any...

Yeah, thanks very much. We have raised day olds under a broody before and it ws really good fun, it should hopefully be even more fun with two mothers. We will keep a very good eye on them.

Raising day olds with two broodys?

Thanks guys, yeah I thought that could happen. But then again Rhode Island Reds seem to be extremely gentle and these two seem to be very happy together(always walking around together and they always seem to go broody in a pair). They also never seem to peck when broody like some of our other...

Raising day olds with two broodys?

Hello, we have raised chicks before but we are thinking about raising day olds with two Rhode Island Reds. They are both in the nest next to each other other and and we think we can put a few day olds under each of them. We are just wondering if this will put the chicks in danger at all? has...

    Runt or Roo??

Instead of rooster collar maybe put them it in a box of a night and put in garage or other place, the rooster may still be able to crow but it will be muffed and not as cruel to the rooster.

New to chickens. Starter coop and predators - questions

Have a cage that has wire on the bottom and is fully predator proof and then have a run for during the day when you go to work etc with no wire at the bottom or top just high walls and wire dug into the ground. Lock them in the cage at night. Maybe visit chickenadvice.weebly.com if you have more...

If there is a vet to go to maybe go to them as they can generally at least diagnose it.

House and feral cats trying to snatch my chickens (pleaaassse help)

We did not mean to get a rooster and we did not want one but we just haven't really thought about it and it hasn't worried our neighbours as of yet. It is a buff Sussex and is very gentle to the hens. A strategy of keeping it quiet is just put it into a box of a night and maybe even put it into...

Chickens & field fencing - will it keep them in?

All the chooks seem like fairly big ones. I think if they really want to get out, they will but they won't just jump through when they are fully grown. You could probably use the plastic netting with fairly wide holes that covers trees to put around your property which may be cheaper than...

House and feral cats trying to snatch my chickens (pleaaassse help)

That does sound like a problem. cats generally won't harm bigger chickens but may harm smaller ones. If you have a run for them during the day that has around a 2m wall or a roof or is covered over and wire dug at least a foot into the ground, then you can keep a very watchful eye on them if you...
