    building a coop 4 20 chickens

There are 2 ways to go about it. Deconstruct the pallets and build to design or start lashing pallets together and wrap it with chicken wire , hardware cloth or deer fencing. I built my firewood corral this way. You will want a base of 2 pallets tall because the underlying one gets a lot of...

To Heat or not Heat my Coop

Adding a heater being it electric or fuel just sounds extremely unsafe in a chicken coop. If I were to heat it I would make a simple solar water heater to heat the floor. However there are numerous ways to heat and cool factories, buildings homes and even coops passively. Sent from my SM-G900V...

    Chicken doggy door?

I dont think they would be able to lift the door or would be scAred of it when it closes. It's worth a try but vertically split would work because they dont flap they divide. However I would build a small porch for the door. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Hi beekissed, thanks for your experience and expertise with the FF. I am more concerned with the yeast escaping and causing powdery mildew to develop on the plants growing in the area in which the FF is in. Also I believe it caused some unwanted soil fungus so I am trying to avoid any problems...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Hi. Thanks for replying but I already know how to make FF and have been doing it for over a year. Post #2 does not have information in regards of an enclosed system. I can not move the ferment station but it causing problems with the other things the shed is designated for. I need ideas on a...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

How would I do fermented feed in a closed bucket without it getting moldy or other unwanted pests? Would I brew it like beer? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    Gotta ask...why?

If you got the space you don't need to feed em. They might just be a bit smaller and produce smaller eggs. I feel that many people over feed. You got to lol at some of these post, a lot of mother hens wanting to spank you for not feeding "proper". Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Sounds good to me. Have you ever tried em-1? My flock goes bananas over the food when I use a bit of that.

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I have been using fermented feed for well over a year now and wouldn't have it any other way! It is so easy. Empty 50# bag in 32 gallon trashcan, fill with water almost 2/3 up the 'can, STIR, STIR, STIR. It takes about 3 days for it to cook, just keep stirring it. When the barrel is 1 scoop...

How much Fermented Food should you feed your chickens

I think you should feed as much as they can eat in 15 minutes. If there is food left in the dish after 15 minutes it is too much food. My flock is 2 turkeys, 4 ducks and a dozen or so chickens and they get about 1 gallon to 2 gallon of 20% multi use pellet fermented. They are pretty spoiled...

    Royal Palm Eggs

Hi there, happy new year! I have 2 Royal palms a female an male. They got pardon thanksgiving time when 4 of the 6 made it to the table. Considering keeping these 2 to start egg production and maybe get more turkeys for next thanksgiving. My question is at what age do they start laying? They are...

turning my old pool into a chicken pen is old sand under it safe?

Why would it not be safe? I'm assuming the pool is the above ground style with vinyl which sits on top of a sand base? Are you removing the vinyl?

    Carnivores Waking Up

@lazy gardener sounds like you got a spot perfect for a carnivorous bog garden. Only if it had a sturdy greenhouse on top. Otherwise mint, potatoes and running squash will do great in that spot.

How much is too much corn??

I figured there was not much behind that. Other than fiber and iron, corn isnt much on the nutrition. Perhaps the friction of the scratch is the cause. Haha, bad joke.

Why is fermented feed getting moldy?

Wow way off topic, lengthy and some misinformation. The original question was about mold in the fermentation. With any type of fermentation process you do not want a sealed lid. Fermentation is a chemical process, elements are being rearranged creating the sought after product and a byproduct.

How much is too much corn??

Someone mentioned in another discussion thread that corn in summer can increase body temperature. There was no further explanation or link to an article. I was giving my flock about 2 cups of scratch in the morning then regular feed in the evening. Since change to fermented feed in the morning...

How Many Birds Can 2 Acres House/Feed?

Have almost 50 birds on 1.3 acres. Mostly chickens but some turkeys and ducks. The coop is a bit messy and probably stinks. Some people are bothered by nature smell but not man made smells and some vice versa. In my county residential zoned property has a 10per 5000 sq ft with 1 chicken per 500...

    Feeding Roosters

Haven't raised chickens for very long but noticed that my rooster eats when he needs it but eats less at a time. From my understanding the rooster searches for food, eats a bit, crows to tell the hens where the food is, stands guard then off finding more food. From that I believe a higher...

Meat bird fermented feed cost savings

For me I have not seen a costs savings with fermented feed. Flock size is 50 between chickens, ducks and turkeys. They get about 16 cups of food per day fermented or regular. They eat it all no matter which it is. Plus about an acre to forrage. Maybe im not giving them enough but thats all I can...
