So, i know this a really old thread, but i just got a rooster for my girls after a couple of years. I just saw him do the deed.. but he was only on her for like 10-15 seconds. he is only about 5 months. is that normally how long it takes him to do his business or he is just practicing? thanks!
Can i get your opinion on gender of this 13 week old. I have several that are same breed, but this one is the only one with a rooster look.. largest comb of them all, thicker legs, tail feathers point down,, .. but I figured at 13 weeks, it would be bigger. I have 2 blacks ones, same age...
Hey, I got a bunch of chicks from Mcmurray, all brown egg layers, then I added one RIR rooster. They are 12 weeks now, and I figured the rooster would have a much larger comb than any of the do right now. I have two black ones that have bigger combs than all the rest, but their saddles feathers...
This little one is 5 weeks old and absolutely no tail feathers. All the others have tails but this one has none! Any guesses what it is? Also, pullet or roo? Thanks!
I didn't even think of a plain ol bandaid! Thanks!!
Should I worry about the toe being bent at a little bit of an angle? When I was looking into it, I came across that some chicks just have a bent toe at birth and it's nothing to worry about. Do you think that's the case here?
Hey, this sweet little bantam keeps getting picked at!
At first her toe was just raw looking, but now she only puts weight on it when she has to.
When she isn't moving around she keeps it tucked up under her like a flamingo.
All the others keep picking at it. It isn't bleeding, just raw...
I have the electrolytes in their water already. She is drinking and eating, just doesnt run around with the others, and wont pull her wings up. I have the temperature where it should be. They are playing like they should be, not huddled together, but not panting with their wings out either.
I...
I got her from Murray McMurray hatchery. She is 2 days old, and her wings have been like this since she arrived.
She eats and drinks, but not nearly like the others do. But she just chirps all day long and is louder than all the others, so I feel like she may be distressed.
Her wings do...
So, we have a run that is attached on one side to our chain link fence that we share with our neighbors. So the fence itself is one side of the run. Our neighbors love the idea of us having chickens.. however, I kind of want some privacy. I have looked into chain link fence slats, but that gets...
I have a fenced area that measures 12'x21'. The fence is only 4' high, and my coop stands at about 7'. So if I added a cover, there would be the coop it had to go over. Plus a small tree that I would have to cut the wire to go around. It is close to one side of the fenced area, so I figured I...
Alright, so I have an acre completely fenced, with 4ft chain link. As you can imagine, chickens soon started jumping fence, even with clipped wings.
I have a dog run, it is approximately 8'x20'. It is just a fenced in area, with the 4ft chain link too. That is where I placed my coop...
I dont necessarily want purebreed chicks, I just want mixes that I can sell. I forgot to say I also have 2 white rock hens. I know if I mix my RIR with them, I will have more red stars, which I can sell. I just need mixes people will want.
