I need some input. We got 8 peachicks last week and a couple of days in we notice a few of them have an eye shut. We observe closer and the other few are pecking each other's eyes. I read in a different thread that peachicks do this, but I don't know how to stop it. Right now we separate them...
I hard boiled eggs today and most of them came out like this. Like there wasn't any white around the yolk. I've never had this happen before. There was also water inside the shell when I was peeling them. Also often times lately when I make eggs the yolks almost seem scrambled inside. So the...
Thanks for the help. We got the little thing all cleaned up and out of the shell last night. I did have to moisten the membrane to get it all out.
We do have another chick that pipped tonight. Hopefully it'll hatch on its own.
I took this one out of the humid incubator tonight and put it in...
It made progress throughout the day today and is almost all the way out, but it's almost like it's stuck in the shell. Stuck like the shell is sticky and matted to the chick. What can I do about that? This is day 22.
Okay, I'll start off by saying this is the first time we've incubated eggs, and I have done research....but I don't feel like I know that much about it. The first of the eggs pipped yesterday, but didn't make progress at all througout the day. I can hear it peeping and see it's little beak. I...
Oh i know I need to stand firm. I'm already wanting to go back for one more bearded beauty. And then while I'm there I should get maybe get another brahma. I don't know. Hmm. Or maybe I should just love the ones I've got! I do think that one of my BR's is a roo, so I think, knowing my luck, I'll...
The chicken math got me too. I started with 6…got 3 more a couple of days later…then got 3 more today. But 12 is it. And my rationalization was the same…the could be a few too many roo's in this bunch. So here we are….but I'm not allowing even the idea of getting more.
Well I caved…I added 2 more "Americauna's" and 1 light Brahma and that's it! I am done LOL. When I got home I realized one of the Americauna's doesn't have a beard :( which is what I loved…But nevertheless….I will love it just the same! And now I'm done…No more Chicks!
It is the same size as the 2nd set I got, which are a week younger. I thought it might be bantam size….but when the feathers started coming in tan and not black and white like the BR's, I figured it was definitely not a BR that I thought it was :) It's legs are dark gray/brown color
I took this pic yesterday, so as far as pea comb, what we see is what we've got so far. It's about 2 weeks old too. The others I got at the same time have full wings and are starting to get tail feathers too. That's what so weird about this one. I'm totally fine with whatever she (I hope is a...
I picked this one up a week ago with two other Barred Rocks. (It came out of the BR cage) it's significantly smaller and the feathers are slower at coming in. It doesn't look anything like the other BR's we've got. What do you think? The wing feathers are kind of tan.
I went to the feed store today....they were sold out of americaunas, so looks like the universe assisted in my intervention....I'll need help again Friday when they get another order hahahaha
I'm definitely struggling with the chicken math. I went through the whole 29 pages of the "what are your getting" post today and decided 10-12 really isn't that many. I should get a few more! I can't believe how many chickens some of you have. But I love it and I love them. I can sit forever...
A couple of my Barred Rocks babies have bare bottoms and had them when I bought them, but I didn't know any better. They did have pasty butt, which I cleaned off. Is the bare bottoms part of pasty butt or what else could it be?
So, we have been planning on getting chickens for about 6 months. The local feed store started getting their chicks in, so we thought this was a perfect time. I figured 6 was enough....so we picked up 3 Barred Rocks and 3 Brown Leghorns. Well then my 6 year old tells me "It feels like we are...
Hi all! I am totally new to chickens....We've got 3 Barred Rocks, 3 Brown Leghorns, Golden sex link, Black sex link and an Ameraucana (or Easter Egger, who knows) so far we totally and completely LOVE THEM so much! I can't wait for them to get bigger and see their colors and have fun with them...
