Hi Yesterday I bought 13 chicks at TSC and 7 Ducklings. I would like to find out the breeds. I kind of have an idea but not completely sure... I believe that I have Blue Orpingtons, A Golden Laxed Wyandotte, White rocks, A buff cochin, and not sure of the rest 3 of the blue are standard size and...
Hi all. I have 14 chickens 12 hens and 2 Roos. As of yesterday 5 have started laying and it seems like three started in one day. I am just really excited about this. Now I just have to figure out what im gonna do with all of these eggs. I have 4 buff orpington's, 4 Rirs, 2 ameracaunas, 2 Gold...
Hi, I know how awful this is going to sound but I made it better.... In april I bought 60 chickens, I built a 20ft by 15ft run and a 6 foot by 8 foot coop(for egglaying only). This is obviously too small for that many birds but I was letting them grow in here with plans of building a bigger run...
Today I checked one of my chickens today and found mites; so I decided to check the rest and I have a full blown infestation. What can I do for them as I don't have much money. I read about wood ash and was hoping that yall can give me some info as to what I can do.....
Thanks for the article.... I went to Walmart today and bought some mulch.... I didn't get a lot but was able to get enough to protect them from the suction of the mud. All is well now until the next flood lol
Hi I live in Florida and our weather has not been so nice recently. It has rained everyday for a week and everything is drenched. Since I built my run I have been putting hay on the dirt floor as a precaution against this but that isn't working. I let all of the chickens out in the yard because...
I just put straight bleach into a spray bottle and spray a thin layer on and let sit overnight. If there are stains I add a little more bleach to those areas. The bleach will not harm the Styrofoam, And No I wouldn't add that to the metal pieces. For the metal pieces and the more iffy areas I...
I use an anti bacterial spray then let it sit for like 10 minutes, Wipe that away and then spray bleach on it and let sit overnight. Works great for me and plus gets rid of the deep stains in the Styrofoam.
OMG I just did a head count on my birds which I have 60 chickens. Almost half are roosters.... In September we are planning to butcher most of them, At our annual chick day I got 10 free RIR straight run chicks for buying 5 bags of feed, 7 out of 10 ended up being roosters. It is just awful, I...
By their body shape and big feet. That's how I tell they look a lot different from say a RIR or a White Leghorn. They are created for meat and have a lot of it.
9 have and there are 5 eggs left it sounds like 3 of the five are pipping but haven't broke through yet. Would it be ok to take the 9 to the brooder and let the three others hatch. I am just wondering if the other three will rely on the others to hatch.
It really depends on how they are kept. These birds can live years but they are bulky and big breasted so it is not recommended to keep them past a certain amount of weeks. They grow fast and taste so good lol. As far as laying goes you will possibly get eggs out of them but they are not an egg...
Today is the first day that I am allowing them out of the pen unsupervised all day. I usually let them out from 7- dark everyday but I have decided to let them start coming and going as they please. In the spring I bought about 60 chicks yes I went overboard. My Plan is to expand our run so...
Hi all, I woke up this morning to 8 new baby coturnix quail from my flock. I have had them in the incubator for a while and they were supposed to hatch on the 5th. Low and behold they hatched today just as I was about to give up hope. I believe tha tmy incubator temp was too low and that is why...
I read about this the other day but I give mine the tomatoes in our garden and the plants when they are done making.... They are all fine but I would be cautious now lol...... they say that the leaves are poisonous........
