Last year I picked a chick out of the fry pan lot thinking I'd like a colorful roo. I didn't have any roosters. The chick turned out to be an EE pullet. She's now my favorite, but still want a roo. Happen to be in a couple towns over today and the farm store had a fry pan lot. I got seven...

    EE fooled me?

I didn't really pay much attention because I assumed it would be a boy coming from the fry bin. Maybe the feed store mixed up some. Wasn't until the squating that really made me stop and think. Thanks for the replys. And I think Shea is an awesome name. Lol. I thank my aunt for picking it.

    RIR gender....

Thanks everyone. I didn't think they were looking like roosters. One I knew was a hen early. The other looked more roo-ish. But she grew out of it. Out of 4 straight run chicks I got 3 hens. Not bad.

    RIR gender....

Quote: I hear crowing but wasn't sure who it came from. Must be my only lil buff rooster. They have some green/black in their tail. But not long like most roosters I have seen.

Cross Breeding Questions - Sex links?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has crossed RIR with a white leghorn hen? Will the chicks be sex linked? Are there any crosses on Australorps that get six linked chicks? I have a few chicks, going to order some more. I'm thinking of keeping them mostly for laying but would also like to hatch...
