Can molting bring stress to my ladies?

I give my girls scrambled eggs. They love them and since they don't look like what they lay, it is ok.

My hens have dug in their pen to the point that they are undermining the fence around their pen and a few have gotten out from under it. Any suggestions on how to prevent this?

    need guinea help

A stray guinea started hanging around my chickens. She was running around their pen during the day and roosting in the tree above the pen at night. Last night she went into the tool shed which is sectioned off into a coop area so I closed her in. This morning I opened the door to let her out but...

    Stray Guinea

The guinea hen went into the coop this morning and has been very quiet all day. She just sat in the window. Not sure if she is sad or just subdued. Is a quiet guinea hen a good thing?

Tell How Predators Got Your Chickens. Save Somebody Else From The Bad Experience

My neighbor had her chickens free range and all were taken by a fox and one by a hawk. We're trying the fenced in & covered area for them during the day and coop at night. We will see how that works.

Layers or meat birds??? How can I tell?

Yesterday someone told me that she thought she bought laying chicks but they got so fat they couldn't move and she only got 1 egg so she figured that they were meat birds. My birds are about 8 weeks old. How can you tell the difference? Is there a difference? I'm confused.

Along that line - maybe dog hair would help too. I have 3 dog that shed. I will try the stuff I brush out of them.

Fleas in my coop - help!

I took a class from a chicken farmer and she recommended Frontline in the spring and fall. Prevents lice, mites and fleas. You can't eat the eggs for 5 days after treatment.

Our chicks are 6 weeks old. Can we give them play sand in place of grit? Does it work the same or do they need special grit?
