We got this hen and her four chicks from a local farmer yesterday. I think she looks like a Dutch Brown, but I'd like your opinions on this. Also, one of her chicks looks right for a Dutch Brown, but the others are clearly mixes.
Here are the pictures:
If you need something clearer just...
Today is day fourteen of my eggs' incubation. I candled one, like some people suggested, but it looked more like it was on day nine or ten. I don't see a blood ring, I was never able to see veins, and I can't see the chick's eye as well as I was able to before
However, I was holding the egg I...
I have the humidity in the incubator between 50 and 60%. Some sources say that's good, and others say that's too high. This is my first time incubating eggs and I could really use the help. Currently the chicks are on day 11.
No, her crop is mostly empty. I'm not sure about doing a necropsy. There might not be enough time. We're going to be leaving for a short vacation tonight, so I'll have to ask him soon.
She has very thick feathers around her neck. Her posture does also make it look like her crop's full.
She was on the same feed as the other chickens, who aren't having a problem .
I think she's too far gone too, she's getting it tonight. I just want to know if her symptoms match any other sort...
This happened to one of my chickens, except we think the dog did it. She survived, even though we didn't put anything on it.
Since you've given her some medication already, I would just wait and see. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Hope she gets well soon.z
My red sex link has been acting funny since the 5th.She began to lay down a lot and stopped eating a while after. She was laying runny, light brown poo. She's a little younger than a year old. The other chickens have been avoiding her since we've gotten her. At first I thought she was egg bound...
I would like to incubate chicken eggs in the future, but there's a little complication. My red sex link hen lays these weird oval-shaped eggs that seemingly have no tip or base. (If that doesn't make sense I'll see if I can post pictures.)
I've tried candling them, but the light can't really...
Maybe another chick scratched or pecked it. If any of your chicks are aggressive, that would be my guess. It could have been a chick at the hatchery too.
She's stopped eating chicken feed and is still sitting. Right now she refuses to eat anything besides breakfast cereal and water. Is that normal? Also, the lump has gone down a little bit.
