    California - Northern

Hi, I am up the Redding area and would love to find a good home for our bantam rooster. I don't know what breed he is because someone basically threw him over the fence one night. Guess they saw our big red barn and decided this would be a good place for the roosters they didn't want. We have...

Abandoned Banty Rooster - what breed is it?

So someone dumped a couple of roosters at our farm last year. I guess they thought, "hey, big red barn, good place for the roosters we don't want" Anyway, foxes or something got one pretty quick but this guy is still here and really pretty sweet and timid. Anyone have an idea what breed he...

    Feather picking?

Try getting a flock block. This seems to provide nourishment as well as an outlet for their pecking instinct. Our hens all look much better since we've been putting flock blocks in the coop. We found ours at Tractor Supply.

How to transport adult geese & ducks?

Thank you Silkie Girl! I can't see any reason why a drive would be stressful for the birds. Maybe for the lady driving up!

Suggestion for warm ladies gloves for winter chicken chores

I am not sure about sizes but I have heard Harbor Freight has some warm waterproof work gloves. I haven't checked it out myself yet. Right now what I am using is some wool gloves that I bought oversized and then washed and dried in the washer so they would shrink and felt a bit. This only works...

How to transport adult geese & ducks?

Okay, this isn't specifically chicken related but I know many people have other birds, so maybe someone can help with this question. I have a couple of adult geese and a duck that I am selling to someone who's about 400 miles away. She suggested possibly coming by air and taking them home that...

    What breed is your broody?

I have two hens that seem to be broody right now - one blue splash and one black copper marans. Two of my blue splash marans went awol last year and came home with a bunch of chicks in tow so I know they will do it given half a chance.

Have two Survivors out of 5 Hatchers ?????

You identified your problem - room temperature. I lent my incubator to my son's teacher last year and he had similar problems. You MUST keep the incubator in a room where the temperature doesn't vary too much and definitely cannot go below 60 overnight/weekends. I'm afraid any hatch you try...

If I could do it over -Tips for 1st time geese

I would spend more time every day holding them. I did it quite a bit but now that they are adults I can hardly get near, so I wish I had done more of it. Also some breeds are just aggressive; if you get one of those forgetaboutit. We got an Embden gander (either a mistake or an extra from the...

    Poo Poll

I keep an old garden trowel in the coop to clean out the turds. I would gag if I had to pick one up by hand, too. But to each her own!

    First Sebastopol/Goose hatch! Help!

I haven't hatched geese yet but from doing a search on "internal pip goose" it looks like it can take up to a couple of days from internal pip to being out. You may want to search the old threads and see what you can find. Hope s/he gets out okay! Good luck.
