So in my botany class we use Zebrina, also known as Wandering Jew, to look at the crystals in it's stalk that deter predation. The crystals will create an inflammitory response, ie. throat swelling, when consumed. Does this response apply to...
Hi!
I've seen some ideas for an aquarium incubator before, but I love how you gave all the details and the step by step process with results.
I have two aquariums (a 10 gallon and a 20 gallon, both were for my gerbil, but he's in the 20 gallon 99% of the time). I would definitely disinfect the...
Hi!
Okay, so I don't have pictures right now (sorry, I know they're helpful).
I have a Welsummer Cockerel. I bought him as a chick out of an Assorted Straight Run Bantam bin. I didn't think that he was actually a bantam though, because he was the size of my standard chicks.
Now, he's fully...
Lol, I wish! I could keep up to 100 happy and healthy standard chickens. However, my mom has forbid me from buying any more chicks, fertile eggs, or chickens. She also doesn't think my chickens will live long. I am making every effort to make sure they not only live, but thrive. I'm hoping that...
Hi everyone :)
So I had to move the chicks into their side of the old milk house early. It took a full day to get their side ready (they were already kicked out of the house though). The floor is solid concrete. I have sections for them to sleep with pine shavings, but the majority of the floor...
Hi there!
Okay, so I just got my first small flock ever, 9 chicks. They've been in the back of the house for four weeks and I'm not quite finished with the coop.
This is a before picture of the coop. It's an old milk shed that is divided into two parts.
My dilemma is that the coop is OVER 400...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm still not sure about Lossi. The chick markings were definitely female. However, if Lossi ends up being a roo, it'll be a ratio of 2 roosters to 7 hens, I don't think it'll be that bad ( ), but hopefully Vix is my only Roo :P

Looks like Lossi is a female! YEAH!
Her comb is huge, but her chick markings were definitely that of a pullet.
Oh! That looks just like Lossi did when she/he was a chick! (Checked out Cackle Hatchery for pics)
Thank you!
It's a bit easier to do research on sexing chicks once a breed is established. That's how I figured out Vix was a cockerel. I used the RIR sexing tips. I sort of thought Vix was going...
I bought 4 chicks a week after I bought my first five.
A few days to a week and a half old pictures
A week old to two and a half weeks old pictures
Hi!
Okay, so I'm still trying to figure out what some of my chicks are. I know for sure that I have 4 Barred Plymouth Rock Pullets. I'm pretty...
Well then.... Um.
I'm definitely a noob at this.
I checked a bunch of pictures out on cacklehatchery.com with the OEGB and a lot of chicks look just like mine :P
I really hope that this is a pullet and if it's a Welsummer Pullet, that's awesome too :D
Hi,
I bought this chick as an "Assorted Bantam Straight Run". However, when I went back to the store, I realized that my chick is actually twice the size of the other "Assorted Bantam Straight Run" with the same amount of feathering. So probably not a Bantam.
These pictures are four days old...
