I don't know if she's egg bound or if there is something else going on. She seemed totally normal yesterday and when I just checked on her this afternoon, she was just sitting there. Any ideas? If she is egg bound, what do I do?
This is what the TSC website says:
Layer Feeds
Layer feeds are designed to provide optimum nutrition for birds laying eggs for consumption. Layer feeds contain 16% protein and have increased levels of Calcium, for proper shell development. Layer feeds should be fed starting around 18 weeks of...
So what you're saying is, even though they started laying, I shouldn't be feeding them all layer? I have no way of separating the layers from the non layers. I assumed, but the name, you feed them layer when they start laying.
They seem pretty healthy, except for the laying... They have been on layer feed for almost 2 months because that's when the first ladies started laying. We don't have an actual door from the coop to the run because it's all enclosed and it's been so hot, so they've had pretty much unrestricted...
Ok, so I'm not sure if anything can be done at this point. Our back gate broke so we had to pen all of our chickens up in a space that was probably too small for them all. We also had my parents chickens until recently. 14 in total. 4 started laying, but haven't given any eggs in at least a...
oh, yay!! I was worried It was another rooster. This is by far the reddest comb of my flock and I just didn't want to believe I have another rooster. Do they just sit in the box like that if they are trying to lay?
So here it is. It is acting all strange right now. Just sitting in the nest box. They usually just run from me but this one was just chilling in the nest box and even let me pet it a lot. I tried nudging it out of the box and it wouldn't really move.
So all of my chickens are roughly the same age. One just layed their first egg yesterday. One of my white leghorns has a rather large comb and waddles compared to the other 2. We already had a rooster in the bunch and he crowed a month ago. I'm just curious how can I tell by the comb and waddle...
They are a NZ mix. I just weighed a couple here at 11 weeks and they are just over 3 lbs. I have to process this week no matter what because my son is having surgery next week and will be at the hospital for 3 weeks.
I keep hearing that 12 weeks is a good age, but I can't seem to get rabbits up over a couple of pounds at that age. The parents are quite large, but a living rabbit that only weighs 3lbs doesn't dress out to much. Any recommendations?
I'm just frustrated. This is the third abandoned litter so it's off to the stew pot. This last one kicked her lone baby out onto the floor and I found it screaming. She didn't even attempt to make a nest. I have to put the infant down because she won't accept it and none of my other kits are...
My family and I have been raising rabbits for the last year. I have found it to be a very rewarding experience. Thanks for that great article about rabbits. Here are my kits:
The little naked kits are from my rabbit Daisy, born today. The older kits are from my rabbit, Oreo, and they...
We've had our rabbits for a little over a year now. This is the first time I've had a runt. She seems to be ok, but I worry about the little gal. I am raising my rabbits for meat but if she makes it, I may just find a home for her. Does anyone have any experience with runts? What should I be...
She's a NZ. We've kind of taken pity on her because she only has one ear. The people we got her from said she got frost bite on it and it fell off. It doesn't seem to affect her though. My only reservation with making her a pet for someone is that she's not social. She doesn't really care to be...
