I have hatched two groups of BYM and each hatch two were yellow with spots. Cute! Especially since pretty much all the rest are black or dark grey. I was certain they would be white with black spots as their first feathers were just that. Now the first two are 6.5 weeks old my favorite is no...
They do have chick grit, I have never used it personally. Commercial chicken feed usually has some grit in it but, I always offer grit to my flock. I have both oyster shell and poultry grit (granite) because some prefer one or the other. I also give my chicks hard boiled egg they love it and it...
The lid is a bit tricky. When you take the lid off to candle the eggs set the lid on a flat surface open end down. If you are still having issues getting the humidity up try a piece of damp sponge or if you have an open spot a little medicine cup with room temp water in it.
I used to free range my chickens and it was awesome. Currently I live in the woods and there are just way too many predators. I let my turkeys run around in a fenced area, not much messes with them.

12 weeks old!
I just can not imagine life without chickens! :)
I got those numbers from different e-books and websites when I first got chicks. So that is what i have always stuck to. It is pretty hot and humid here so it works out well for us, by the time they go outside it is always in 80s or 90s. I suppose people probably have many views on how warm to...
Probably not a bad idea, chicks during the second week should be kept at 90F/32C, then down 5 degrees each week until you move them outside at 4-5 weeks old. If you are keeping them in a bathroom that is only 25C/77F that is too cool IMO.
