Is there anyone else who has hens that love the rain?! Before i got chickens i read that they dont like water and should stay out of it but all 5 of my hens wont stay out of the rain hahah! I tried putting them in their coop and they run right back out and contiue to do their things!! Can they...
Deep littler method? Ive never heard of that. Do you put littler down first and then pine shavings? Does the pine shavings get soggy, moldy or stink? I only have one RIR and a Blue Cochin in one coop and 3 Bantams in my other coop so i have been cleaning the sand about once a week anyway.
So i'm recently using rough, all purpose sand for the floor of my two coop's..the coop's are not that big and so cleaning is not super hard but the sand gets wet and stinky where their water nipples drip when they drink. Im just curious if any one else is having a better experience with other...
Ok i will try that. I think i will wait the 3 more weeks for my bantams to be big enough to go to the outside coop and see how my RIR treats them and if she is still being a bully them i will separate them and see how my cochin does. I really dont want to split them up but i dont want a mean...
Thank you. I have them separated now but i just let them all out on the grass today since it was so nice out. I dont want my bantams out in the coop until they are a little bigger. I really dont want two coops and if my Rhode Island cant be nice to them then i will have to find her a new home...
I have an about 4 month old Rhode Island Red hen and she is just a plain bully to my month old silkie and frizzle bantam chicks. I have them all outside on my grass today and my Rhoad Island Red keeps chasing them and pecking at them :( what can i do to get them to play nice? I have about 3...
I saw a thread about mealworm raising.. Do chickens HAVE to have mealworms to eat? I know they love to eat them but can i just buy them from the store and feed them as a treat? Lol how often should the chickens get them to eat?
Thank you! SillyChicky im sorry for your loss :( she was so pretty! I love how fluffy they get! Being so cold hardy is a reason why i decided on a cochin. It gets pretty cold here in utah in the winter months!
They need to be in a brooder at 80-70 degrees at that age.. What do you have them in? What food are you giving them? Try dipping her beak in the water to make sure she knows its there.. Im sorry she is sick.
What are some of your ideas on how to keep the "feeding station" clean? I have sand in one section of their coop witch i LOVE but i cant find anything i like in their feeding area.. I have tried river rock under the waterer but found that cleaning all the rocks was quite difficult and sand was...
Do i reduce the heat by 5 degrees each week? Thats what i have read online but I just want to make sure. I have 3 bantam chicks that are about two weeks old and i have the heat at 85 degrees as of today.
