Hello and welcome....
Here on our family run farm we raise registered Haflingers.
Recently we added heritage breed chickens to the farm. The intention is to produce stock worthy of a heriage breed and market the eggs from these birds. While looking for a breed of chicken to raise we decide on...

No not even a face like they were sorry, the answer to the police was, well they were only chickens. The dog came back three times and each time the owners were given a fine. Guess that was the only way to reach them, through there pocketbook.
They are a nice breed and I am happy I...
Boy it's been a few days since I have visited this post. Wow did I miss alot! I'm taking down notes for new birds and eggs come spring.
Our neighbor's dog got into the run this week and killed every last bird I had, Delaware and Black Java, 18 total and 4 Guinea. Restitution was a total of...

HA, ha I have done that with the same look on the dog's face, way to funny.....
I feed my girls raw meat and cooked meat all the time, not huge amounts of it, I see nothing wrong with it. They do eat any "meat things" they can if they find them, worms, bugs, mice, snakes...
I feed mine 10% sweet feed as a treat. 1-2x a week, just a handfull.
I think for the cost of it and nutrition wise, chicken feed is better than trying to mix your own.
I also feed them the sweepings off the barn floor, a mix of sweet feed, dry cat food, hay and what ever may be in there. Not...
I understand they are indeed having troubles this year. I ordered hatching eggs from them, out of 24 eggs, 4 hatched and 2 of those were the wrong breed.
I also ordered chicks--that were never sent.
Customer service is bad, bad, bad just lately. I finally did receive a refund but not for the...

"Lizzy, the artist's rendering of the standard is actually a much stockier bird than most hatchery Dels. Note the extremely deep chest, especially. The first time I saw that picture, it was what surprised me, that they are supposed to be such a big, broad bird, since all I had seen were narrow...
Wow,
All this is very interesting. Guess I had better do some more reading up on these if there is any info to be found on line. I did find the standard image mentioned earlier.....

Can any one point us in the right direction for info on the standard for them? It must be posted here, but I didn't find it.
Thanks.
Yes, they are huge and very friendly. My 3 year old carries them around in her arms all the time and they like to ride in her wagon.

I just love the 4 Black Java I have! 2 Roosters and 2 hens. I find mine to be very friendly and smart. Mine have also learned the moving of the bucket trick for crickets. They also will follow me along the fence line because they know crickets jump up then too and will follow me around the yard...
Thought I would share these with you...
9 weeks old (above) the rest they are 16 weeks, taken this morning....
None have started laying yet, but by the looks of them if the day light holds out they soon will be...
They are from Ideal Poulty bought as day old chicks. They are very...

I was told awhile back that I wouldn't be able to keep several roosters in the same pen. How do your's live? In the same or seperate pens?
I would like to keep all the birds together in the same pen. 12 hens and 2 roosters. What do you think?
