Don't give uo! Maybe you could make it so you could move it around. Put wheels on it or make it in small pieces you could carry. Put it where you want and if they try to close you down you could simply move to the legal area until things blow over. If your neighbor is not the one complaining...
I have one milk crate nest box I just put it right side up (opening at the top) on the floor in the barn. The girls use it when the hay feeder for the sheep gets low on hay. I think they'd use it every day if they didn't have access to the hay rack for the sheep.
Mine is close and its so convenient though this year the run is starting to smell. I was actually on here looking for a smell solution. But I'm glad it's close. we can check for eggs easily and I run an extension cord out there in winter to keep water from freezing. I also think it deters...
I think I have a chick. Yesterday I had 2 pips when I checked my broody. I had my suspicions that she was eating the eggs so I fed her a scrambled eggs to see if that might help somehow. Anyway...I went to check on her this morning and I couldn't get her off the nest to get a good peek but I...
Mrs. FP I don't think the hen actively killed the chick. It didn't looked pecked or anything. I think it might have gotten squished or something. Anyway I only got the eggs so the hen could do her broody thing. I have no interest in hand raising chicks. Although I bet my silkies would take...
Disappointing hatch day here. I went out to the broody coop this morning. My mom saw the broody standing up while I was out feeding the sheep. She screams at me that we hhave a pip! So I went to check on her. She was up and eating when I got there. I looked at the eggs and there were only...
I caught the broody off her nest for her little mealtime. I had given her 7 eggs but when I looked in there were only 6 in there. I think she must have eaten one. She is isolated and the egg was nowhere to be found. I guess she didn't read my post about how expensive those eggs were lol!
Hi there. I use the deep litter method. That is what you need to do if you only want to clean 2x/year. Use pine shavings for bedding. When it gets very "poopy" sprinkle some DE (diatomaceous earth) on the bedding and mix it all together. I use a pitch fork. Then put a layer of fresh pine...
Mine is raised up and the chickens spend the hot part of the day uder there dust bathing and lounging.
I like ground level for broodies so the chicks can get in and out.
I realized my hatch day is only 4 days away. I'm starting to get excited. I don't candle eggs if a broody is hatching them so I haven't had much to contribute this month. Soon!
I have had 1/2 of a coop started and sitting on my patio for months. Well I caught the big hens sneaking in with my silkies and picking on them. Today I will finish the little house. Wish me luck. I will post some pics this afternoon. I am sure I will be thrilled with myself for finishing.
TigerJane I think you should see something soon. I believe they start peeping once they break through the inner membrane. The next step is pipping the shell. Keep us posted.
