Almost 1x2 inch thick blob of shell material inside egg.

BTW, I have learned that Isa Browns do molt end of Feb. if not in the fall so this is not a symptom of a problem. They tend to stay in molt till June. I also learned that Isa Browns do not live very long which I did not know when I purchased. They are bred for heavy laying and as a result it...

Thanks. All seems good still. No eggs since Monday. Everyone seems happy and healthy but I will feel better when both are up and running again in the laying department so I know all systems are working properly.

Almost 1x2 inch thick blob of shell material inside egg.

They eat Layena by Purina and they also run around the back yard. Interesting question about the scratch. I usually only give once in a while, during winter to make the run more interesting I will spread some out. I did have a camera crew here and we used scratch to keep them near the...

Almost 1x2 inch thick blob of shell material inside egg.

Chicago. She is not laying regularly. Only once a week or so. She has no other signs of distress at this point. She is an Isa Brown and they are very heavy layers. This is her first molt and she is two in two weeks. Both are molting now and my last set 4 years ago molted at this time as well.

Almost 1x2 inch thick blob of shell material inside egg.

Chicken mid-molt. Posted on egg laying forum but no responses. Worried I am heading into egg bound issues. She is acting totally normal, eating, drinking, running around but this is the second strange mass of egg shell type material she has passed inside a thin shelled egg that is broken when...

Almost 1x2 inch thick blob of shell material inside egg.

This happened a few years ago and my chicken became egg-bound so I am a bit freaked out. She is molting. Both are actually but one more severely than the other so I assume it is balder girl. The egg breaks due to thin shell and in addition to a yolk there is a big blob of what looks like tuna...

My neighbors are mad about my chickens - but we are LEGAL

Not that you need more support since we all think your neighbors are crazy, but I live on a city lot (50X170 feet) and my neighbors don't complain! I would kill to have 10 acres and cannot imagine why they live out there without animals. I suppose the best thing is to be cheerful and kind and...

PBS coming this morning - storyline, ordinances

Local PBS station looking into why city ordinances vary so much. My town allows 2 hens but similar towns don't. Any info I should be sure to pass on? I think most urban folks worry about smell and rodents. I can answer to smell but have mixed success with rodents. Anyone know any great...
