We found 2 ducks wondering the neighborhood last night. We put them in the chicken pen to keep them safe. I am wondering what they need different from the chickens. What do they eat? Do they need a pool? Will they go into the chicken coop? They didn't last night. They just huddled together under...
herefordlovinglady,
What are the night guards you installed? We had a opossum on our back patio last night. We have a trap but would like to do anything to avoid losing one of my girls. Still been very lucky living w/ woods and cranberry bogs in our backyard, haven't lost 1 yet!
Thanks
I have a little bowl next to their feeder and I don't think they touch them much. I still have 1 hen who is dropping a jello egg while perching at night. Not sure why but I am getting 5-6 beautiful eggs a day from 7 girls so I am not worrying about it.
My hubby and 2 yr old love them warmed up w/ milk and honey. The chickens love the leftovers my 2 yr leaves for them. I was accually thinking it would make good scratch additive in the winter.
Mine thump their feet sometimes too when they squat. I give mine a nice strong pat and talk to them when they squat. It is a sign of them maturing and they should lay soon.
For the past few weeks I was getting 1 or 2 eggs a day from my 7 hens. The last 3 days I am getting 6 a day! The extra light in the coop must be making them happy! (Me too)
My 2 year old RIR is starting to molt now. It is getting colder here very quickly. Will she be OK in the cold weather while going through her molt? I donot have heat in my coop. I just got her this spring so I am not sure how long her molt takes.
Thanks
I am going to try the deep litter method for the winter in my coop and I have a few questions. I have a heavy wire floor in the coop for summer. I plan on putting plywood or rubber over it for the winter. Which do you think would be better? I was also wondering if it is OK to use Stall Dry with...
I have 6 BSL that have been laying for about 4-6 weeks now. Over the past few weeks we have been getting jello eggs and eggs w/ no shell at all. I am finding 1 or 2 a day. They are all on Blue shield layer pellets and I have oyster shells at free choice. They don't seem interested in the oyster...
I have 6 BSL that are 22 weeks old. Just started laying about 2 weeks ago. I have one egg that is like a jello egg. It came from a hen I just isolated because she was limping today and the others were picking on her. One of my girls also has a prolapsed vent already. The eggs are still small so...
