    Is this normal ?

No, his legs don't look like that pic. His legs are not lumpy at all, not raised, separated scales. He just has some patches of shiny white scales. I checked him today and some of the largest white scale patches are gone. I guess they are dead, dry scales that are being shed. Where they were...

    Never saw this before!

I'm sorry that I was not clear- this is my turkey hen. They nest in the overgrown brush and shrubs near my house. I saw the turkey hen pick up an egg in her beak. She took it from her new nest and carried it into the yard, approximately 200 ft away.

    Never saw this before!

My birds free-range during the day and I collect their eggs from their two nests each day. One hen started a new nest in brush and high grass. I followed her to find the new nest and saw her come running out of the brush carrying an egg in her beak. She ran into the yard where she dropped the...

How do I treat a sinus infection?

She's looking less swollen this morning but is not eating or drinking. I called my vet- they don't treat birds and won't sell an Rx w/o seeing the animal. (I'm still fuming over that answer.) What can I buy at TSC that might be effective ?

How do I treat a sinus infection?

One of my 4 month old runners sounds congested, making squeaking noises when she breathes. Her face is swollen. One eye is runny and there is a bb-sized lesion on her forehead between her eyes. It appears to be draining. There is no drainage from her nares. I did not see any signs of illness...

    Help, please-sick runner

One of my year old runner ducks is sick. She has been looking thinner but has had a great appetite. I feed Flock Raiser and she free-ranges daily with the others; lays a daily egg; normal activity level -until today. She has been quiet today and did not come running for her supper; never...

Will hens with poults get along ?

I have two hens raising poults and have kept them separated while they were on nests. I'm beginning to have a space problem and would like to put them together. Is it possible ? or will they be aggressive toward the other's poults ? One hen's babies are a week old and the other's are 2-3 days...

another question about eggs in nest

My hen is on her first-time nest- 22 eggs. I have doubts if any are fertile. My standard bronze tom, 2 yrs old, seems to be incredibly incompetent. Incredibly stupid according to my husband. The poor boy (the tom, not my husband) wastes his efforts sideways and backwards on the hens and treads...

    question about eggs in nest

One of my hens just began brooding for the first time. One egg of the 23 broke. I cleaned up the nest while she was off this morning. There are several with dried yolk on them in the nest now. Are chances for hatching these better if I wash them or leave them as is ? Thanks

    help with terrified ducklings

I was just given 3 abandoned runner ducklings, about 2 weeks old. Mom disappeared. They obviously have never been handled and are terrified of the sight of me. Their reaction is heart-breaking and I worry that they will injure themselves. They are inside, in a tub, under heat, eating/drinking...

    What does this mean ?

I raised my first clutch of keets, now 4 months old. Occasionally I see a behavior I haven't noticed in the adults. They bow their head to the ground and back up, full-speed. What does this mean?

What's too cold for lone pea?

I need advice, please. We recently completed our new bird barn and runs and moved the 2 turkeys and my one lone peacock in. It's a 12x20 metal-type barn, divided in half by fencing. Our first real winter blast of cold weather is coming next week. The turkeys are fine through our NC winters but...

    Need help covering run

I'm covering a 10x20 run and need suggestions on framing to hold the netting. The fencing is 6 ft high chainlink. I want the netting to be about 4 ft higher. Any suggestions/advice on using PVC pipe or something similar to tent the netting across the run? Thanks for any help!

    Why is my tom spinning?

I guess an ear infection could be a possible cause; however I would think an infection would worsen. I've seen him do this weird behavior only a handful of times over the last year. It seems to happen when he gets agitated at me or if I separate him from his hens. I wish I could describe it...

    Why is my tom spinning?

My standard bronze tom, about a yr and a half old, will occasionally spin in a circle and then run around, bumping into things for a minute or so. Then he's fine. It's almost like a seizure-type activity. Has anyone experienced this ? Other than this, he is healthy, fat and sassy. Thanks.

    duck or guinea eggs ?

Ok- I agree. They have to be guinea eggs. My poor hen must be as confused as I am. She's brooding a small clutch and still laying an occasional egg, I guess. I've checked her clutch and none are missing. Thanks group.

    duck or guinea eggs ?

These are the two eggs I found. I know they look like guinea eggs but my only guinea hen is on her nest. My ducks are 6 mo old Runners.

    duck or guinea eggs ?

Can the first duck eggs look just like guinea eggs ? My Runners will be 6 months old next week. I have found two eggs in a dust bath spot over the last week. They look just like guinea eggs- same size, pointed end, same color, but my only guinea hen has been on her nest and the nest is undisturbed.

    Peas in trees-another question

Quote: Your ghost description is so accurate. They are there one minute and have disappeared in the next. And yes, it stresses me terribly. But I'm ready to lighten up about it- if I can be sure that they know where home is and how to come back. And if noone complains about peas peering in...
