wow I am glad I stumbled upon this thread. I am about to change and grow my coop and run area and I was going to need three more waterers adn was not looking forward to $50 a pop for those chicken waterers..
Thanks

I thought about buying the leg bands but now I am wondering if the colored zip ties could be just as good and cheaper.
Any thoughts on the two different types??

Interesting idea for seing who is laying and who is not laying.
I have two broody type hens. I know for sure one does lay however I am skeptical about the other one.
The subject says it all..
I would like to know what others think. What have you experienced to be the best egg laying chickens in terms of egg production per year.
Secondly what about the largest egg layers?
I eventually would like to dwindle down my breeds to the two best egg layers I can...
OK so at the moment I have 33 chickens...
21 of them are of egg laying age but are still under 1 year old. I get an average of 16 eggs a day from the 21 chickens.
Is this about right?
Is this ok to do with a chicken that doesn't lay anymore or is not a good layer anymore...say a 2-3 yr old chicken?
Would it be good in a Chicken Stew??
Thanks
Well I will be building two new coops soon, and just came across this thread... like the idea of no floor...just the dirt... hmmm
what about if I put 4X4 pressure treated lumber buried to about ground level as the base for my walls and then build the coop from there? do you think the pressure...

No worries about them getting overweight? I heard that can be bad for them.
I am thinking about designing out of wood a feeder trough that is partially covered for coop area and just filling it as needed... so thats why I was inquring about this issue..

been to that site... done research... but still have conflicting reports. some of the chick starter is medicated... flock raiser supposely has it either medicated or not medicated... chicks supposely need the medicated. They don't see flock raiser medicated near me....
so many...
I'm sure this has been asked a million times...just call me lazy when it comes to searching for the anwers....sorry..... but why do some posts or threads have chickens or little chicks next to them?
OH NO another dumb newb question lol
I have read that chickens can eat between 1/4 and 1/3 a lb of feed per day.... hmmm seems to be a lot.... thoughts on that??
Secondly.... How do you longtime chicken rasiers feed your chickens if you don't just free roam them in the garden..? Do you feed a few cans of feed once a day twice...
For now I have the big 5 gallon waterer with the base.. When I do the new coops and run there will be a small stream /slash pond area for the ducks with an autofill. Do you think that would be good enough for all the chickens to drink out of also?
It will have stable sides for them to stand at...
