Quote: You can have porcelains pop up from a flock of millies. Original porcelains were a sport from mille fleur. They breed true to each other, though. I think what the judge was suggesting was that you put a millie roo over your porcelain hens, then put the porcelain roo over any split...

d'Uccle eggs~ mille fleur or black

Shipping would be Monday, August 5th. Can do either Mille Fleur d'Uccles or Black d'Uccles, or a mix of both. Have had awesome hatch rates at home, but have not shipped any eggs so far this year. The cost is actually $20 plus real shipping cost to your zip code. I just put $30 for a...

Who were the judges? Were these APA or ABA shows? Judges aren't always familiar with d'Uccles, so you can't always base your keep/ let go decision on a judges input. I show mine at at several shows in multiple states with multiple judges. I track results according to the numbered leg bands on...

Did you show him? How'd he do in shows? I like him and don't think he is a mix. He's a little like in the hackles & saddle, maybe, and could use a little more white. Do you know age? He should have some white spots on his tail if he's been though an adult molt. I do love his lack of wattles...

Quote: Oh my gosh! No kidding on the molting! It looks like someone exploded a feather pillow in the coop. They usually do this in August, so I am praying they get it together in time to show them starting in August! Not sure about going to Columbus this year. Knoxville is hosting the ABA...

Those are millies, no worries. When young, it takes a while for the 3 colors to move through the feathers and settle into the correct position. Just be patient and let them mature. They'll look really weird for a while, as their darker head feathers come in and they keep a yellow ring around...

I would. Just have to wait a while because everyone is broody and stopped laying. I think I've broken them of it, but no one is laying yet. Once they start, I will set some for myself and for the show in December. And then I will be able to ship.

I currently have my black roo over my self-blues for the same reason; just wasn't happy with them. Feather quality is good, and hen color is good, but the roosters just didn't have the color quality I am looking for. After years of getting rid of roosters with feather ticking because they...

Looks very familiar! I have a couple of possible blues from my splash girl x black. Waiting to see what they look like at POL. They're almost 6 months now, and I definitely like thier build. Just want to see if any other color shows up on them. Another breeder who got a splash from a pair of my...

If you breed to SOP, you could lose a lot of shows because right now lots of spangling is "in" even the SOP calls for a lot less. The mottled roo might not have shown well because he has so much white in his beard and muff. It has been my experience that pullets & hens almost always do better...

Brown-red was the variety that was slated for admission to the SOP most recently, had passed the preliminaries, and were slated for a national show when avian influenza broke out and caused several states to be quarrantined. Since some breeders couldn't get to the national show, the numbers...

Anyone who truly has the best in mind for a new variety, and wants them admitted to the standard, will not charge a fortune for them. It takes a lot of breeders with a lot of birds to get them admitted to the standard. Trading/ sharing is the way to see that happen. I played a little with...

I do realize that. I also realize the amount of discipline required. You can't look at a young chick and know what color it will be at maturity, and you can't know that it will breed true later on. To know if an accepted color is truly show quality, a good breeder has to wait until a bird is...

    Breeding and Preserving d'Uccles

I was at show yesterday, but only showed my millies. I had a pullet that snatched the cloth out of my hands while I was trying to polish her feathers and pecked at me when I tried to spruce up her comb and beak before the show. She was FULL of the spunky d'Uccle attitude I love so well. She...
