    MS/ILT Positive Flock

I believe what I'm going to do for right now is separate anyone I see showing symptoms, and on Monday I'll call the state vet to see what they recommend doing. If I do decide to keep the flock and try to manage symptoms, I would just have to refrain from adding to the flock.

    MS/ILT Positive Flock

Tennessee. Yes, the State Lab gave me the diagnosis. I know these are reportable diseases elsewhere.. which is why I am thinking about culling, despite how hard this is.

    MS/ILT Positive Flock

For a while now I've had sick birds and finally was able to do a necropsy on one. It turns out they not only have MS which is what I had been worried about, but also ILT. I have somewhere around 130 birds (haven't done a headcount recently since spring, have had a handful of broody mom's hatch...

    Vitamin B2 deficiency?

Thank you for this! The roo i'm dealing with right now seems to be improving a ton. I'm doing vitamin b-complex, selenium and vitamin e once a day for him. In the beginning he couldn't stand and I had to tube feed him to be sure he wouldn't starve, but today he's able to eat and drink on his...

    Leucism in Chickens?

I have a young cockerel that looks almost exactly like yours, save he's probably much younger than yours is now and has feathered feet, haha. Did he end up getting more brown leakage as he aged? Mine is about 3 months old now and has no leakage. Hoping he stays pure white, but I did have another...

    Vitamin B2 deficiency?

It's definitely chaotic. I have around 200 chickens, separated into four massive coops. The older roos do good at keeping the younger ones in line when they're cooped up, but when they free range It's a problem. Thankfully I have resources and only keep roos for their temperament usually. I have...

    Vitamin B2 deficiency?

Just wanted to say thank you for this! I am having an issue with a rooster with riboflavin deficiency right now so this is coming in handy. Luckily the hen from before perked up the bext morning, so my guess being that the roos were rough with her must have been right. That plus the heat must...

    Vitamin B2 deficiency?

Have a hen tonight (3yo approximately, Speckled Sussex) who I found on the ground in the coop. After looking her over I found she had her feet curled in and couldn't really walk much. I separated her from the others, thinking at first maybe the roos had had their way with her (poor thing) and...

    Chickens Dying (?) Help!

A while ago we brought back a rooster that had breathing issues - raspy breathing, gurgling and he had an abscess beneath his eye, I believe. After that we've had a lot of chickens getting sick and passing away, but I have no idea what he could have had. He passed away only three days after we...

    Chickens Dying (?) Help!

Yesterday we had a snake attack on our flock. We believe it was a rat snake, and it was about five feet long. I found it curled up in one of our nesting boxes and there were four dead chickens, all of which had dark blue-purple combs. They had no puncture wounds. We got rid of the snake and I...

    9-day old Chick Coccidiosis (?)

I am seeking help for a 9-day old mixed breed chick that I hatched out of the incubator only a week and a few days ago. She's the same weight and size as the other chick I hatched with her, but she seems to have a lack in activity. She stands with her head low and her wings low, and doesn't move...

Review by '' on item 'Rhode Island Red'

I've had Rhode Island Reds all my life, since 7 years ago. While they're a good, hardy egg-laying breed and can be quite tame when you handle them a lot, they can be quite aggressive to new additions to the flock and stick to a very intense pecking order. When Roosters are not handled properly...

    I'm Sarah!

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I got my first batch of four chickens approximately 7 years ago, in 2010. (2) How many chickens do you have right now? As of right now we have 47 chickens! (3) What breeds do you have? I have quite a few; most of them are Rhode...

    Hatch Day Questions!

One of the babies hatched yesterday and we now have him in the brooder! He's very lively and is trying to learn how to walk now. As for the other one, he/she has finally pipped, and we're waiting for it to hatch! I appreciate all of you helping out and answering my questions. I've always...

    Possibly diseased flock?

Unfortunately, we lost about 14 chickens last year because of Coccidiosis. I think one of the big mistakes we made was putting smaller chickens (about 3 months old) in with the big chickens. Not only did the disease probably affect them because they were babies still, but the older chickens...

    Hatch Day Questions!

Sorry, meant 99! It was originally on 122, which I knew was WAYYY too high for the babies. I took it down a couple days ago and they seem to be doing fine. I haven't done the float test since a couple days ago.

    Hatch Day Questions!

Today's day 21 - Hatch day! So far we've got 1 out of 2 babies hatched. The first one is definitely a Rhode Island Red, but the second one has the potential of being Rhode Island Red mixed with either a Cornish Cross, Black Sex Link, or Red Sex Link. He's doing pretty well, but I have a few...

    Possibly diseased flock?

We have never had this problem last year, and it only just started early this spring when we were first hatching our first chicks of the year. They all seemed to do fine each time we raised them for the first week, but ended up hunched over with ruffled feathers, and they could not move very...
