    Giant Flemish Bit Me

Thank you. He has bitten a couple more times, but it seems more exploratory and not aggressive. Still scary though. We are getting him neutered in a week so maybe that will help. We pet him often and he is actually pretty affectionate, jumping up on us and letting us pet him. I will try this...

    Giant Flemish Bit Me

Hello, we recently inherited a year old giant Flemish rabbit. He came to us potty trained and very sweet yet shy. I expected that with this change of home and family there would be an adjustment period so I have not worried about his shyness and his regression in potty training, but today as I...

What Kind of Chick is This?

Thanks everyone, happy to hear she is an EE, I LOVE the other two I have. This one is a bit more skittish though, I hope she warms up to us soon. I cannot wait to see what she ends up looking like, google image here I go. :) Thanks again!

What Kind of Chick is This?

It may be too early to tell, not sure. I am assuming she is an EE, but in looking at EE chicks online I cannot find one that matches her coloring. She is pure, light yellow with bright white wings and grey legs. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Opinions on best egg layers

Lol, it looks white in the picture, but it is actually a light toupy brown, almost pink. Half of the others in the container are hers too so you can see her color does vary. She very well could be a mutt though, the rest of us in the house are.

    Opinions on best egg layers

I am no expert here, but our New Hampshire Red has laid an egg a day since she started laying. In a little less than a year she has maybe missed 3 or 4 days? I can honestly say I do not remember a day she didn't lay. She also lays XL eggs and frequently lays double yolkers. I have a 2.5 year...

Living with Chickens, Things I Have Learned

We are only about 8 months in, but we have had some definite fails and surprises. Here are some lessons I have learned. 1. Never expect that your chicken will not bathe/flail in any dirt or in our case wood chipping meticulously laid in a pathway around a garden causing an extreme mess. We...

    Tape Worms with Pic

Thank you. I will go to get the z-gold tomorrow. When you say no food, should I keep her cooped up tomorrow so she doesn't eat anything, grass, bugs etc? Thanks again dawg53, so incredibly helpful.

    Tape Worms with Pic

Sorry in advance for the gross picture, but just want to be sure I am doing the right thing here. Today I found little white worms in my hen's poop. I immediately went to the trusty feed store and they sold me Wazine...then I researched and found that this is not for tapes (even though they...

Which Breeds are These Little Guys?"

Thank you. I got from someone who bought from a hatchery. He said they have a 95% accuracy and would take back if it is a rooster, they are illegal here in our city. :( We already went through having to give up a rooster we thought was a hen, not fun, but we got lucky and found him a good...

    Chickens the lazy way

I am a homeschooling mother of a 5 and 3 year old who works from home and have endless child classes/play dates. We only have 4 chickens (2 laying and 2 chicks) and sometimes it does get away from me, but I have tried to simplify as much as possible. We have a water nipple system and I built...

Which Breeds are These Little Guys?"

Thank you! I was actually kind of concerned that Rainy was a rooster because she has a little more of a comb than Harmony, so that relieves me a bit. However now it makes me question Harmony. Lol. Thanks again for your input.

Which Breeds are These Little Guys?"

Hello, wondering if anyone has insight into which breeds we stumbled upon. When I chose I simply chose the chicks that were the easiest to pick up...very scientific I am. Anyway, just curious about what we may have chosen. Here is Rainy (named for the white cloud on her head of course). And...

post your chicken coop pictures here!

This is our little coop for our two girls. They are only in when the lay and at night and roam the yard all day...the poop is a wonderful addition to our patio. ;-) Anyway, as you can see it was our kid's old playhouse.

Hen Alerts Us When She Lays

Thank you. I hope it lasts, it is really quite a sight. :)

Hen Alerts Us When She Lays

I am wondering if this is normal behavior or if I just have the best hen ever (just kidding). Every morning we let her out of the coop around 6 am, she stays out until about 7:30, then lays her egg, comes to our sliding door pecks the glass and squawks until we get the egg. Then we thank her...

    Egg Sizes

Thank you and yes, those 2 were double yolkers. She laid another today...seems like every 4th or 5th egg is. Thanks again!
