2 yr old laying hen acting lethargic and slow

Hello, I have a 2 year old buff Orpington hen that is sick with something. When we brought her home over a month ago, she was spunky and had good weight to her. Last week I thought she was on her way out. I noticed that she was moving super slow, and barely kept her eyes open. Normally she...

    No eggs...

Bummer! We came home with 6 chickens, the 2 older hens mentioned above, 2 March hatched hens, and 2 march hatched bantam cochin hens. I'm sure they are all still trying to figure out each other and the pecking order. Hopefully things start to settle soon. They aren't super flighty, which I'm...

Thanks for the fast response! I kind of thought it would take a while, but needed to hear someone else say it. Hopefully they settle in soon!

    No eggs...

Hello We recently built and purchased a few hens to start our own backyard flock. 2 of the hens are older, one is a 2 year old buff Orpington and the other is a 1 year old lavender Orpington. We have had them for 2 weeks now and are not getting eggs. They are being fed a laying ration mash, have...

    Chick with issues

Hello, A student brought some eggs from their farm to incubate at school. A bunch of them hatched last week. I was checking the rest of the bunch that still hadn’t hatched yet and heard a very loud chirping coming from an egg. The egg had rolled over to the side it had pipped. There was about...

crested duckling with more than a crest...

Hi Today I picked up my new littles and found a very unique crested white duckling in the bunch. It has what looks to be a toe or part of a foot on the top of its head. I'm seriously not kidding. If you look at the picture, you can see that its pink and even has a nail coming out of it. The...

Active hen suddenly won't move or open eyes

Her leg was bad when I bought her a couple years ago. It's like it is twisted under. She walks more on her joint and leg because her toes don't lay normal. She is usually able to lift her leg and she flexes and stretches her toes. She must have broken it when she was a part of a breeding group...

Active hen suddenly won't move or open eyes

I mean her bad leg. They both flinch when I poke them. Below is a picture of her sitting. Not sure what other picture angle would help.

Active hen suddenly won't move or open eyes

Yes, the egg was normal. She is better now. Not walking though. I think she might have injured her leg. She leans on the bad side and uses her wing to hold herself up.

Active hen suddenly won't move or open eyes

She does lay eggs in the diaper. I made it so that there is plenty of room to lay the egg, it almost like a little cup under her vent. Good news, she is awake and moving. But I've noticed another issue. She isn't using her bad leg like she normally does. Her leg was usable as a crutch, but now...

Active hen suddenly won't move or open eyes

I bought her at a bird swap a couple years ago and she was a part of a breeding trio but already had a bad leg. Thats why I bought her, because I felt bad. She's had the bad leg since she's been with me. She must have been injured at the previous owners and nothing was done to fix it. I ate...

Active hen suddenly won't move or open eyes

I have a Mille Fleur hen that has a bad leg and has become a house pet. She lives with me in my apartment and wears a diaper and is very clean and active. Today she was being her normal self, making noise, wandering about the apartment as usual. She ate and drank like normal. This evening...

I think it was that he was too cold. Not even the incubator could help him.

    Sticky duckling

After cleaning him up again, I put him in the incubator to stay warm, went to check on him a few hours later and he had passed on. I guess he wasn't supposed to get passed the shell after all...:( Thanks again for all your help

    Sticky duckling

I managed to get some of the stuff off his eyes. He didn't like it at all. I'll give him a break for a while before I try again. He's a fighter! Thanks for the help and encouragement!

    Sticky duckling

He was pipped for a day, then managed to zip around the top of the shell, but sat there for another 12 plus hours. He wasn't moving when I opened the shell. I am going to try the warm cloth tomorrow, he is so tiny and I don't want to hurt his eyes
