Hello, we just lost a silkie to a hawk. I'm confused on how to prevent this since the chickens saw the hawk coming and ran into their coop. The hawk just eyed them for a moment then flew into the coop and picked up the smallest silkie and flew off. He actually dropped the silkie after he flew...
Thank you for your replies! I'll go ahead and move the coop a few feet over, rake and lime the ground where the coop currently is so the grass can go back. I'll also add some pine shavings so they can comfortably nest also.

I recently moved my 6 week old chicks (5 of them) into the coop because they kept jumping out of the brooder. However, I had a some questions:
1. Right now they just hang out at the bottom of the coop which is just sitting on grass in my backyard. So they are just pooping on...
They were in the shade for most of the day, yet they were still panting. When the temperature dropped in the evening, the panting stopped and they looked normal again. Maybe they will have to get used to the heat? Its pretty darn hot even in the shade in TX.
