    Crushed soft shell egg stuck

Speckles is doing a lot better. I did tube feed her last night. It wasn't fun. Boy, was she an angry bird! But she has been pooping better than she had in days, and she ate more this morning. She is still weak, but I think getting the egg pieces out was a life saver. I will be keeping a close...

    Crushed soft shell egg stuck

Today she was just looking like it was the end. But mid morning she perked up, so I decided to take her back to the vet. And the vet got the rest of it out. I was being too much of a weenie, but every time I tried to get it she started gasping, so I stopped. But the vet had no qualms about it, a...

    Crushed soft shell egg stuck

I did another warm bath, and vent check. I was wrong the crushed egg is still there. I just can't seem to get it out. I gave her a little pain killer and then attempted tube feeding pedialyte and tiny bit of baby bird food so that it was still very liquidy. Neither she nor I enjoyed that...

    Crushed soft shell egg stuck

She is still alive, eating a little bit and drinking a bit of water. She is walking around the run, but she's also sitting a lot and napping. She had another bath on Saturday, and unlike many other chickens that I've read about on here, she does not like them. I did a little Vaseline finger...

    Crushed soft shell egg stuck

I have a hen that is just over a year, had been laying fine until recently. A few weeks ago her shells began to get thinner and thinner. I always have oyster shell & egg shell available. A few days ago, I realized she was stuck. I gave her a warm bath and checked her vent and tried to help it...

Can you look at this necropsy report and tell me what you think?

I was away for the past week, so I had my pet sitter feed her a bit of oatmeal with about 1/8th of a capsule of calcium with vitamin d (calcium at 500mg, I think), in addition to her regular food and available calcium. She dropped a few more soft eggs from the roosting bar. I got home last...

Any idea on dosage for that? Would that be given as a human supplement, added to food or water?

Can you look at this necropsy report and tell me what you think?

So, to continue the saga, I now have one hen dropping soft shelled eggs from the roosting bar overnight. I offer both oyster shell and crushed egg shell free choice. The other hens' eggs are fine. They are all roughly a year old. The one laying soft eggs, Speckles (Speckled Sussex, of course)...

    Egg bound or broody??

When mine are broody and I pick them up and move them to a new spot or outside, they hold the weird flatish position they were in on the nest, sometimes they push their breast down and hold the tail up for a few moments, then they snap out of it. And they make funny noises, like 'chuck chuck...

    Dead Chicken Found in Coop

Can you get a necropsy done or do it yourself?

Can you look at this necropsy report and tell me what you think?

Ok, well I have the equine paste. I gave each a roughly pea sized amount on bread yesterday. Just curious, what is the different reasons for doing five days in a row vs once then repeat 10 days later? Since I gave it to them yesterday afternoon, do this mornings eggs need to be tossed? Would...

Can you look at this necropsy report and tell me what you think?

A new fecal exam of my birds comes back with hetarakis or ascariasis and very few to no coccidia. My vet recommends piperazine. I have safeguard and rooster booster on hand, and will order wazine. Opinions on which to use, how much to use, withdrawal, etc?

My head hen died last night

Thank you, Mary. She wasn't quite a year old, laying great. And not so much as a whisper of ever being ill, she was the one who chased me around my yard, jumped up on railings to look over fences, etc, the most. I have since treated with Corid. I realized this wasn't the best thread for my...

Can you look at this necropsy report and tell me what you think?

I'm going to contact my vet and see if there was any addendum sent to this report yet. Ugh, Marek's or Lymphoid Leukosis, both sound like doom for my flock. And I have two more laying hens paid for and being delivered in a month. I wonder if I need to try for a refund. It's just so weird...

Can you look at this necropsy report and tell me what you think?

I never gave her an injection, but I got her at 12 weeks old. The girl that gave her to me is a vet and never said anything about any injection, and I did ask about vaccinations, she said she got her birds from hatcheries that did day old vaccines.

Can you look at this necropsy report and tell me what you think?

No, not her. That silkie is ok though. I do think it was a peck too many to the head for her, she walks and runs now, but does still wobble and tip over occasionally.

Can you look at this necropsy report and tell me what you think?

Yeah, I get the coccidiosis, and the fatty liver because I gave too much treat stuff. But the other stuff is what is confusing me. What could have caused the other issues? How could I have prevented the other stuff from happening? Is it likely that my other girls have the same stuff? And it even...

Can you look at this necropsy report and tell me what you think?

I had a hen die very suddenly, so had my vet check her out and send samples to a lab. This is the report. I've since treated with Corid.

My head hen died last night

Well, here's a follow up to Elsa's story. We got the necropsy report and it seems to indicate coccidiosis plus liver problems. I'd like to attach a copy, maybe someone could look at it and offer a better translation. It seems to say there were some rumors, and mentions Mareks, but seems...
