my silkie hatched out eggs in June. I have never had a rooster but out of three eggs one is rooster. They are now 20 1/2 weeks old and i'm wondering when i'll begin to hear him crow? i know all chickens are different but what is the average age a roo will crow? he is an easter egger

both of these are 8 weeks old. the gold one really has me stumped. tiny feet, no comb yet splotchy gold...its my tricky one. the white and black on has a bit of a darker comb but its still smaller compared to my roo that came from the same hatch. i'll post a pic of him to compare

I know this sounds strange but......could i use a rain barrel to water my chickens? like as their only source of water? i really hate that i'm giving them our city water which is full of chlorine and any other kinds of crap. i notice they like drinking from puddles etc and at least my rain water...

We received 2 new chickens for a very negligent farmer :( they were covered in lice and had a pretty bad respiratory infection. We got rid of the lice by using Sevin (that stuff works SO well) and then with the resp. issues i gave them each tylan 50 via injection twice a day for 5 days. also...

I have 4 RIR pullets and 2 (i think) Japanese bantams. The RIR stick together and the 2 bantams stick together. if the RIR are in the run the bantams stay up in the roosts of the coop. They very rarely come down and if they do they stay far away from the others. I never see fighting or anything...

I believe I have read somewhere that a fresh laid egg can last a month on the counter without going bad. Is this true? Just want to make sure I don't kill everyone in my family :)

I have noticed "someone" in my crew has been checking out the nesting boxes...all of they fluffy hay is now flat as a pancake! how long after seeing someone scoping out the boxes did you start seeing eggs?

We just got two new bantam easter egger chickens. I opened the coop and one flew out...into my evil neighbors yard and waaay up in a tree!! We live in the city and alll of our neighbors aren't happy about the fact that we have chickens anyway but now shes way up in a tree :( she will not come...

I have to option to buy 2 EE Bantams. Would someone be able to tell me if they are noisy hens? Also are their eggs really tiny? would you compare them to say, a size medium egg at the grocery? Thanks so much!
