jvls, you saved me from asking :lau
Looks like my chickens are now taking a winter break, big time. Oh well, Every egg me and cooper didn't eat I gave away anyways.
They seem to be healthy, happy, eating, drinking and pooping
bigzio,
Why don't you use a water heater?
It makes life much easier!
I use this right now but before this I used a cookie pan heater with a light bulb inside.
I have a 5 gallon galvanized waterer sitting on it. And I have another one when it gets low. I switch them out
Nope, my chickens were born in the spring of twenty four and this fall. They quit laying a couple months ago.I get one or two eggs a day now.The other day I got three, so maybe things are changing.
I have been threatening them to replace them with new chickens😁
That's funny. I've gotten ready for winter a few times myself and tomorrow I'm going to do it again.
Yesterday I put the plastic on the chicken run. So that's done I think.
Plugged my water heater so that's ready for the winter.
Tomorrow I'm going to pressure Wash the John Deere mower and put...

I've always felt the same about basketball, give them 100 points and let them play for 3 minutes.
I did start giving them black sunflower seeds so I'll see how long before I start seeing more than a few eggs from my 11 hens.
Farm Innovators
Electric Water Heater Base
$45
This is what i've been using
Farm and fleet sells this.
Prior to this, I made my own with a cookie tin and a forty watt light bulb.I had to use a sixty watt when it got down to 0 though
Well, after 2 days in the crate, I took her back out. And let her mingle with the flock, and she still sat on the nest for a day or 2, but then she quit and since then, I've gotten maybe 1 extra egg a day. But now they're molting, and I'm getting less, so I'd say this was probably successful...
I've had a broody hen for a while now. So I'm using aarts idea right now. This is her 2nd day in the crate with his food and water set up. I'll let you know how it ends up.
All of a sudden I have a broody hen!
Morning, noon and night I take her out of a nesting box and take her outside and she seems fine, just like the rest of the hens.
She doesn't object to me taking her out so guess I'll have to wait to see how long this lasts.
Been going on for several days now
I don't think it was me. But last spring I did purchase two Americanas that we're supposed to lay blue eggs and they do, but damn few.
And these are pure bred Americanas, I know, because I had a fill out of form with my address to even buy them.
I'd trade them for 2 australorps in a heartbeat
They always have been. So you guys with the coon problems, is this only at night?
I would think during the day the chickens could outrun them if they were out of the coop/run.
The coons got 15 chickens?
It'll be here soon enough, looks like a couple days away.
Hope my chickens like it.
In march/april and beginning of may my 11 hens were laying 7-10 eggs a day. Last week when it got colder 4-7 and the same so far this week.
I did change out the bedding in the coop and till the run so everything...
