Didnt need neighbors permission just laws about placement of coop. We're lucky to live on a corner so we had plenty of space away from the neighbors. Plus all my neighbors love the girls and ask about them often. Thanks for the help!
This is my FIRST winter with the girls. I'm wondering if anyone has some tips for me. I have a garden coop with 4 hens (Golden Comet, Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, and Easter Egger)
This coming week will be the coldest for the longest they have ever had to deal with. I have no heating for them...
I have a 6 month old Easter egger who's been laying for a few weeks now. Lately I've been getting soft shells from her but thought it was normal since she just started laying. This morning I found a wet spot on the roost and my husband said when she squares down for pets clear liquid squirted...
Well the first one was blue and she's my only easter egger and I know that the second one is her cause I watched her lay it. I'm thinking the first one was from late yesterday cause I didn't check for eggs at the end of the day.
My easter egger just started laying today or yesterday. I found a soft shell egg this morning and was cracked open and she just laid a no shell egg at noon. Is this common (two eggs in one day/soft/no shell) and should I be worried or is this just normal first time later stuff. Thanks

I found my chickens liked me more when they started laying and saw me as the rooster. Give them extra treats like the roosters do and if they squat down when you walk by give them a pet. They will probably go through a "high school" time were they will not like you but once they start laying and...
my girls are 7 weeks and fully feathered. It's still getting 45 degrees over night here. Is it ok to move them out? Right now their coop (and then) are in the garage but I want to move them out today. Do you think they'll be fine? First time with chicks so I want to make sure.
my EE is about 6 weeks old and I'm starting to worry about weither she's a hen or rooster. She looks like a hen to me but acts like a rooster. From day one she's always been the boss and is aggressive with the other birds. She's nice enough to people. So with the way she acting I'm seeing if...
