Late duckling hatching and shell looks transparent and dark

I probably won't collect any more eggs till late winter at this point but I will definitely just put them all in and wait till the 7 day candling before giving up on them. Thank you!

    Sweet gentle rooster gone insane

However, if you have small children or grand youngins, you can't take any chances.....that's why I decided he couldn't be allowed to be around behaving that way anymore. Our grand youngins are here all the time, couldn't risk it.

Late duckling hatching and shell looks transparent and dark

Yes they do have groovy digs here! We also feed them flock raiser and some bird seed to supplement their bugs. I had read on Metzer Farms that totally clear eggs are infertile and cloudy eggs are fertilized, but I do hold them in a wine refrigerator at around 55 degrees (since we aren't wine...

    Sweet gentle rooster gone insane

I had the same problem recently and every response I got was that they can't be tamed when they go aggressive and must be "removed". So while I was postponing the inevitable, he charged me while I was just walking from the garage to the house. I got the .22 and decided it was time. Luckily...

    Muscovy nests keep getting attacked

I have had the same problem but I caught the culprit red handed raiding the nest and scarfing up the eggs. I was a huge water snake. My ducks live on an island on a large pond so I can't watch every second and protect them from the snakes. I collect eggs every day and artificially incubate...

Late duckling hatching and shell looks transparent and dark

I should add...they are free range ducks but we have 1 large pond with a center island for their protection from predators (other than water snakes) and 2 smaller ponds for them to play in... We're building a duck house and pen for the little guys until they're old enough to join the flock.

Late duckling hatching and shell looks transparent and dark

Well he definitely makes the rounds! lol! But some eggs are infertile (clear) and they don't get into the bator. Three mommas have sat to within 5-7 days of hatching but only to have their nest ravaged by snakes. We caught one red handed and took care of him but none have ever been able to...

And BTW, I will go with your method #1 because I only work part time so I can turn them manually during the day.....

Late duckling hatching and shell looks transparent and dark

OK, I just read on your website that call ducks hatch at day 25 or 26, which explains why several of mine have pipped 1 day after going into the hatcher at day 25. My flock is a mixed breed of random duck species. I believe there are 3-6 call ducks, several buffs, Indian runners and a few I...

Late duckling hatching and shell looks transparent and dark

Awwww, I feel horrible if that was the case. I have another new batch in the bator now. I'm going to go remove the tray immediately! Thank you so much for the advice!

Late duckling hatching and shell looks transparent and dark

He was small end down in the incubator tray, same as the others. Any idea what would cause a broken vein while still he was still enclosed in the shell?

Late duckling hatching and shell looks transparent and dark

No, I am very sad to say he didn't make it. :-( The darkness was because he bled out in the shell for some reason? From the size of him it appeared he had quit before he went into the incubator but I thought I candled them all when I put them in, I must have missed him.

Late duckling hatching and shell looks transparent and dark

I have a duckling that's just 1 day late hatching but the shell looks transparent on the ends. I can see allot of dark areas which are probably the duck at both ends. So I'm worried that he's grown into the air sack and is maybe stuck? When should I assist?

    Ducks and chickens living together

I have runners, calls and many mixed breeds in between. They all stay tight together on land and water! Mallards drakes in my experience are gang rapists and very aggressive, I avoid them now.

    Ducks and chickens living together

Last winter we let 2 ducks into the chicken coup because our pond froze solid for a month. We only have chicken hens in there though. They got along great, shared nesting boxes and food. We had a tub with a trough heater in there for the ducks to muck about and a separate heated waterer for...

    Help!!! Pecking mallards

We went through a similar experience. Now we have 1 drake and 11 hens and they are all happy! (Especially the drake!)

Duck stopped setting on Her Developing Eggs

Agree with Southern Pride. Candle the eggs and if they're viable then do a make-shift incubator!

incubator stuck on 37.7 is this to high

Maybe open the incubator a few times every day to cool them?!? Or put a cool damp towel in toward the end?? Good luck and keep us posted!!!
